Blackout drinking - do you ever get the memory back?

worst "OP's friends now call him 'chicken-lover', but OP claims not to know why, despite waking one day with feathers in his bed, and the nightmarish flashbacks - in which there is always a distressed chicken squawking somewhere out of view - so he tells the internet that he remembers nothing, but deep down there is shame, so much shame"... thread, ever! ;)

I'm not entirely sure I follow what could very generously be termed as your 'logic' on that one, but I suppose everybody is entitled to an opinion, no matter how flawed it may be. :)

Clearly you can't accept, or comprehend you can't handle your liquor. :)

Blackouts from alcohol abuse are an indication, not a cool side effect to big yourself up to your mates about. :)

But what do I know, I am not cool and hip drinking myself into a stupor.

If you go out and drink far too much, as i'm sure most of us have at some point, and you end up waking at home (or god knows where else) several hours later, with no recollection of what happened, do you ever get the memory back?

It happened to me for the first time a few months ago, completely by accident infact (i'll explain if you ask :p) and I still have no clue what happened that night, apart from what my friends tell me. But a few of them have experienced similar things before, and remembered vaguely what happened a day or two later.

Nothing bad happened, i know that much. I'm just curious if it is normal to *never* remember. :p

You won't get your memory back, because you never had the memory in the first place.

Alcohol has many effects in the body. One of them is that it inhibits an enzyme which aids the transfer of short term memory to long term memory.

So the memory was never actually formed in your brain in the first place, so you won't be able to recover it.

I first read the title of the thread, blackout driving. I was going to advise, not to drink and drive :p

I haven't yet had a complete black out night, but I try every time :D

I have no flashbacks, and the only things I woke up surrounded by were vomit, Chinese take-away boxes, a couple of beer cans and a few things which weren't mine :p

I can assure you that i'm not a drunken 'lover' of chickens :D

Scrabbling around looking for all the important things I had on me like my phone and my wallet was terrifying. Luckily they were all there :o

i usually only remember up to a certain point, then my memory goes blank, i briefly get my memory back for part of the night, then it goes blank again. :p

falling asleep in the taxi on the way home was my worst fail. he drove a few miles past my stop, woke me up, told me to get out and took the money. i had to backtrack and walk the rest of the way home :(

Seriously, how stupid do you have to be to drink yourself into such a state? I don't understand how it could be even remotely enjoyable once, let alone repeating the experience multiple times... :o

I have this weird ability to know when I have had enough to drink, and to, wait for it... STOP. Wow. I have never blacked out from drinking too much. Cheers.
I don't recall having blacked out from drinking (pardon the pun ;)), but I've certainly lost memory after not being too drunk, eg I've remembered most things about an evening but not been able to recall details, but then my general memory is so poor anyway...

Only time i been blackout wasted is as a "yute" usually accompanied with puking and previously raiding the old mans liquor cabinet.

Maybe once or twice at uni but blackout drunk no i find it BS only time it happens to me my head would be down the toilet anyway.

I don’t think I’ve ever been in state where there has been no memory recall. It's been blurred but was just the sign of a good time. :p

I don't see it as blacking out. I see it as the emergence of my charming alter ego, while I have a little snooze.

I've blacked out smoking lots of weed but I think thats commonly known as falling to sleep tbh, I can always remember the night before though!

Ew alcohol, nasty drug. Last time I had a drink I didnt even have much and I woke up the next morning in such pain and I could only hazily recall what happened the night before.

Only ever happened to me once, mixing my drinks like a muppet, i was in a pub with some friends then the next thing i remember is being in the back of a police van being taken to the cop shop. Apparently i was having an argument with a bus stop outside for a good thirty minutes.

Bus stops make me nervous now.

I got very drunk one year on my birthday when I was running a pub and woke up the next morning in one of my barmaids beds.

Couldn't remember anything past 10 o'clock previous night and she was not happy when she woke to find I had peed in her wardrobe.

Only time I ever did random peeing.

She got her own back by saying it was a waste of time taking me home as I passed out while she was getting undressed, and I missed the chance of a night devouring her gorgeous body.

Happened a few times to me. Once I remember drinking a bottle of vodka in pre-drinks, going to the club and ordering a litre of cocktail, then waking up/regaining memory on a beach around 6:30.

I don't drink to that state any more.

Only done it once on my 23rd birthday after 2 or 3 (I cant remember) dirty pints.

I woke up in my own bed minus the sheets duvet cover and pillow cases with my ex asleep next to me.

I had supposedly returned to my flat with around 15 people in tow walked into my bedroom, pulled back the duvet, vomited into the centre of my bed and climbed in whilst still fully clothed. Some time later my ex and one of my staff came to check on me and found me in quite a state. They then got me out of bed, stripped me and my bedding, bundled everything into the washing machine, hosed me down in the shower and put me back to bed. Then since there were bodies everywhere and I was in no state to complain the ex climbed in too.

I was unable to get out of bed for nearly 2 days and never wish to repeat the experience again.
