Having splashed out on new camera kit back in June, the equipment's been gathering dust since mid-August. So I finally dragged myself out last night to get some shots of Blackpool illuminations before the switch-off tomorrow.

Turns out that the illuminations were very uninspiring, so here's some of the sculptures along the promenade near the Pleasure Beach.

All photos taken with the EF 17-40L for 30 secs @ F11-16

Those are all, shall I say, weird. But very nice ;) . I'm rather in to abstract photography at the mo, and they all tickle my bell except no.2.

I didn't think there was much to photograph in Blackpool, apart from the lights/seafront/tower! Nice work.

Thanks. I must admit I was surprised at how some of these turned out - even on the LCD they looked a little surreal. They're all straight-from-camera with no post-processing (bar removing some dust spots).

I'm not sure if the effect comes from the longer exposures, or are just a fluke of the strong lighting these were under. I've never tried long night-time shots before so I'm looking forward to trying out some more in the near-future.

The most popular photoblog in the world is Chromasia, based in Blackpool. Its a more interesting place than you think.

These shots just don't work for me. Bad composition and not enough detail in the sky. I can see the effect you were going for but it just isn't working. #5 is the only one that is nicely composed but its still a bit bland.

WOW completly off topic by that site is owned by a good mate of mine's dad, i never realised it was quite that popular
Also some very nice pictures i agree with some of the other posters theyve got a very sureal almost unreal feel about them

Not seen that Chromasia site before, but it has some jaw dropping shots on it, that's for sure! I do however recognise his name from somewhere.
