oh, and the mandatory chef's kiss - 50 series exclusive features, 5090's got to be the greatest most exciting release in a while
The whole product line other than the 90 is now designed in a such a way that you don't really get a gen on gen upgrade unless you buy the next tier up in the stack.I find it perplexing Nvidia now seem to be completely separating their GPU stack. Elite tier £2000 plus (if lucky) and the rest of the poverty level stuff from the 5080 down. Oh you get poverty level but still pay the same high prices, but the “improvements” are all done in locked down software/hardware with AI.
Well done Nvidia, you won.
5090 ~50% + faster than a 4090 for £2000 - £2500
5080 ~4090 performance for £1200 but with exclusive 50x0 AI features it will be up to 20% faster (ooh better price/perf thanks Nvidia)
5070 marginally faster than a 4080 Super for £800. Again the high premium over the nearest AMD competitor is because exclusive 50x0 “features”.
could it be that the rectangle at the center is the chip, the rest of it is packaging?
i think a 5080 could be a viable upgrade for anyone upgrading from the 4080, again i am basing that on leaked cuda count, depends on how much they cut it furtherThe whole product line other than the 90 is now designed in a such a way that you don't really get a gen on gen upgrade unless you buy the next tier up in the stack.
I hope AMD do stay out of the high-end game.

Spend £2400 on a 4080+5080 and end up with 4090 performance, the only winner there is Nvidia.i think a 5080 could be a viable upgrade for anyone upgrading from the 4080, again i am basing that on leaked cuda count, depends on how much they cut it further
The mainstream gets even more gimped. Yet everyone goes on about PT. The fact that the RTX4060/RTX4060TI outsold the rest of the Ada Lovelace stack by a huge amount shows you most gamers can't afford the upsell.Spend £2400 on a 4080+5080 and end up with 4090 performance, the only winner there is Nvidia.
Pointless buying an 80 every generation now, you'd be better off just buying the 90 every other generation.

whats the estimated area, any guesses by the source?

Less cores than an RTX4070 Super but faster RAM.The leaker kopitekimi today with the 5070 specs. Once again nvidia at it
PNY are supposedly the ODM for FE cards so they know their stuff.and on one of the lines it says: "PNY 5090 V1.0"

The RTX4070TI and RX7900XT have sometimes dipped below £600 too.
Neural indoctrination...sorry rendering will save everyone. Expect the RTX4000 won't have it.
The best thing for everyone would be if AMD are competitive with Nvidia at the high end, no matter how long it takes them to get back on track. If you literally don't want that then you are the dark side of nerddom.Someone gets it, that’s exactly my point. Stop wasting resources and everyone else’s time deluding yourself AMD.

sound business logic there.. i would have done the same, ignored the mouthwateringly profitable market segment and then shutdown the shop eventually (thats where its going)lol, I’m not getting at AMD, I’m getting at the so called “enthusiasts” who refused to consider AMD no matter what. AND catering to that crowd is what was and is delusional.
