Even without competition, you can't price your product too high as people wouldn't be interested or don't have the money for it. Of course, that doesn't stop nVIDIA from trying.
What if you have limited silicon supply and can sell similar products to another set of clients for many times more?

I know nVIDIA will make its money there and doesn't care about gaming, but still it remains valid what I've said. Those super expensive cards won't sell very well.

Personally I'd rather buy a new monitor upgrade than a GPU given I have a 4090 already, I am curious to see what the 5090 offers, but will almost certainly end up upgrading the 32" OLED 4K to the new 45" ultrawides being announced at CES. That would actually be money well spent IMO and probably cost nearly as much as a 5090 anyway.

And you'll then need a 5090 to drive it.

Fast as the 4090 is, there are plenty of titles with which it will struggle at 4K with all the settings dialled up, let alone 5K2K. It's clear to me that NVidia are targetting the 4K and beyond market with the 5090, as evidenced by the 78% increase in memory bandwidth and I'm betting it'll be marketed like this.

With the bandwidth increase they'll probably claim it's an 8k GPU, and it will probably be capable of 8k 60fps gaming, potentially 120fps in less demanding games. Despite previous claims that the 3090 and 4090 could do 8k, both of these GPUs lack the bandwidth for 8k

I assign a 0.01% chance he won't get a 5090

They can always launch a super series later on with better price to performance if they want to increase sales, might as well milk the early adopters first though.

You'd be devaluing the brand with all the negative attention and giving AMD/Intel market share and disappointing your board partners.

Ultimately gaming is still a multi billion market even if smaller and still important to any company. You never know what the future has in store for other markets as they are less stable IMO I.e look at Crypto Mining now.

Good. Don't want it to be too easy to get one, that's boring.

Everyone knows the thrill of discord stock alert notifications far outweighs the fun of actually owning a card and playing games on it.
I have to agree with this one, actually. Especially considering current state of AAA gaming industry. :p

Is there a reliable discord group that does this now? The big one shut down didn't it. Dm me if anyone dosnt feel comfortable sharing please :).
I've not actually had to use discord stock notifications for anything since the 3000 series days, so I don't actually know.

I intend to put 5090 FE's in my basket just to annoy potential buyers :D
If you actually manage to get one of the 5 FE's they'll ship to the UK in your basket you should probably buy it, and then buy a lottery ticket ;)

I don't know which model I'll be going for yet, but last launch it was the 4090fe and it went 5 minutes before the launch time due to a back door discord link. I won't be caught with my panties down twice lol.
