Blame on both sides

Calling someone a Nazi is applying an "emotional" label to them (as much as you may disagree) because it allows someone to treat those people (who, as distasteful as it is, were protesting legally) as a legitimate target for violence. Just like a "Nazi" feels like he can beating someone he calls a "Liberal *********".

If you are doing Nazi salutes, wearing the Nazi symbol and chanting 'Jews will not replace us', then chances are you are a Nazi

The statue of General Lee and the Confederate flag is a vital part of American history, especially in the south. Removing them and suggesting that they are the equivalent of a swastika is a disgusting and underhanded tactic.

No one needs to suggest there is a link to Nazi symbolism and beliefs - the protestors wanting to save the statue have already made that abundantly clear.

You have freedom of speech or you don't. It is a black and white statement. The speech of these people is abhorrent to any sane thinking person, it has no place in a modern forward thinking society but to my point, you either have a the freedom to speak or not.

However the people who fought the evilness of the Nazi regime did so to uphold their freedoms, one of which is speech. The fascists went for a fight, they are scum, but then some other people made it easy for them as they also went for a fight and guess what happened? no one there, no press coverage, nothing would have been the way to deal with these people but that doesn't sell advertising space and sell news. Then add in a useless president who has little to no feeling for people unlike him and you have frenzy driven by the media.

So what to do, remove the freedoms to speak or don't give them a vehicle to deliver their hate and in doing so see the vanish into obscurity. I know what I would do, but I have nothing to sell or political agenda.

Just because neo-nazis have chosen to co-opt the Confederate flag does not make the Confederate flag a Nazi symbol. If these people assume that the flag is a symbol of white pride and promotes the subjugation of blacks then they have completely misunderstood their own history.

Would Nazis carrying rainbow flags make the LGBT community Nazis too?

Would you be happy for people with nazi arm bands and flags to march up and down the street you live on whilst shouting about how the jews should be gassed

Would you be quite happy for that to happen regularly, in the name of free speech?

You have missed my point completely.

anti-Semitic chants are illegal in the UK and in the US as far as I am aware

How much proof do you need?

At no point have I tried to dispute that Nazis attended the rally. You've got a bee in your bonnet that you need to get out.

I'm trying to convey the point that the CONFEDERATE flag IS NOT a NAZI flag. Just because NAZIS were carrying them does not make that a moral equivalent

It seems strange that the people in this thread shouting, "You just don't get it!" have failed to see the obvious truth, which is what you've just nicely summed up.

Violent people on both sides. And they gave the "Nazis" exactly what they wanted, which was a jolly good scrap.

And then the media all stood there and televised the whole thing, giving them the coverage they undoubtedly also wanted.

The violent elements of the "Anti-Fascists" aren't heros - they're just more violent people who only understand the language of violence and violent suppression. Idiots, not protectors.

Who was claiming the confederate flag was a nazi flag though?

Can you answer the question?

As i said, you have missed the point completely. Your question was clearly answered in the first line you quoted of my post. Don't try and make this a 'Housey likes the Nazis or supports their view' because that is pathetic and again an example of anger preventing a grown up discussion. My point was that if you chose free speech then don't be surprised if people don't use that and you need to perhaps review your constitution if this is not longer palatable.

You seem to want to make it about me and my views are clear and not the ones you seek to imply.

It was on the news.

I apologize that I cannot remember which channel. But they showed an image of the church shooter and stated he was a neo Nazi with extra emphasis on him being "draped in the Confederate flag"

I'm not accusing anyone here of making that statement.

People need to calm the hell down
