I went on holiday for 2 weeks.

Since I'm back every other time i boot into XP after the log in screen I get a blank desktop.

I tried task manager - 0% CPU usage... ? left it for 5 min no change.

A reboot doesn't solve it I have to power down and back up again - works fine.

Any Ideas ?

If you have the windows cd, stick it in the drive. Run the task - CMD and type "sfc /scannow"

It will check the integrity of windows files. Might sort it out.

I had the same thing a while ago. It turned out my previously 100% stable 3.4GHz overclock from 2.4GHz on a E6600 wasn't stable anymore and I had to go down to 3.2GHz to sort it out.

You need to check your overclocks and voltages again mate.

it has gotten worse.

It now hangs on the windows start-up logo - one reboot solves it.

tried "sfc /scannow"

kept asking for the cd eventhough it was in the drive...?!

will try bumping the voltage
