Hi all, i think my gfx card has died - jst want to see/know if anyone can confirm b4 i order a new one :)

Turned PC on this afternoon and gfx card span up in its usual noisy manner.. however it didnt spin down to its quieter level. Green light on monitor but nothing displayed, not even bios.

I've tried powering off and reseating the card but its the same, harddrives are churning as though its booting, just cant see anything on the screen.

Any thoughts?

dont have a spare :( and the only ones i can get hold of 2mw are agp when i have pci-e.

8800GT still the best 'budget' card to buy?

Couple of things to try, might work.
Try resetting the CMOS and removing all memory bar 1 stick just in case it could be a memory problem.

Is the 8800GT still the best 'budget' card to buy?

I believe they are, not sure how they compare with the ATI (AMD) 3870.
Might be worth checking the graphics section.

Can you hear your HDs spin up when you turn on your PC? If you can then yes - you GFX has probably drawn it's last frame.

hard drives are spinning, got the new card today but it hasn't fixed it :( I guess its the motherboard :S
