Hey, Having some trouble with my pc.

I can boot, get through post etc, but after winxp loads it just goes blank. Monitor is still on (suggesting there is a signal?) but only black.

I can boot in safe mode (with cmd or networking) but NOT in VGA mode.

i have tested the RAM using a memory tester and have tried switching monitors, gfx card and reinstalling video drivers.

if it helps my rig is:

Manufacturer:
NVIDIA
Processor:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 4000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.4GHz
Memory:
1 X 512MB Corsair RAM
Hard Drive:
81 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
Sound Card:
Realtek AC97 Audio / Pci audio
Operating System:
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)

any help appreciated :)

i know you said you've re-installed the drivers, but what happens if you remove the drivers in safe mode and then try and boot in vga (normal) mode ?

ok weird, looks like an application thats making it do that, as it doesnt do it in safe mode.....did you overclock your gfx card and set it to apply settings at startup ?

go back into safe mode, do start -> run -> msconfig
and look at the startup section, untick most if not all and work backwards

Unplug all your USB devices and then plug them back in one at a time until the problem reoccurs.

This randomly used to happen to me on my old PC. After some investigation I found it was my iPod! It drove me crazy.

hey, i have just taken all my USB connections out and after blue screen 2 or 3 times it booted into windows, not sure what it was, gunna look into that now.

thanks for the help, i think it was my usb camera doing it, very frustrating as last time i had this problem i didnt think to ask on a forum and rebuilt my pc

suppose i have it in a good case now :p

tnx again :D:D

No worries - the first time it happened I ended up reinstalling XP. :o

i formatted 3 times and reinstalled xp 3 times, i thought it was the ram, then the hdd, then some drivers.

Took me ages, rebuilt into my new case (didnt have it cause i fixed it using my old case, lol)

at least it works now. only real problem was my GCSE's are this week and i nearly had no pc to use for revision.
