Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong section to post in but anyway..
I'll try to make this as short as possible!

I bought a PC from OCUK back in 2008, I've been extremely happy with it but yesterday when i rebooted i got two BSOD's, rebooting a third time to just get a completely black screen, no post is shown or anything.. the monitor goes onto standby mode and just stays like that.

Now before i restarted i updated my Catalyst Control Center to the newest version which i do about once a month for my ATI HD4870 also there was a Windows Update waiting to be installed, i didn't see which it auto-dl in the background, after i rebooted the first time i got the BSOD stating "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" so i rebooted again, windows started up to desktop then i recieved another BSOD but didn't catch what it said, after rebooting for the third time i was faced with the blank screen i currently have.

Before all of this i cleaned my PC as i usually do with canned/compressed air, only taking out the graphics card so i could clean the fan and the cpu fan so i could clean the grill of the heatsink. Thinking perhaps i didn't replace the graphics card in properly i powered down and reseated, seems fine, also checked the connection for the cpu fan (altho it's spinning) and was seated fine also.

I then (other than panick immensly!) took out each RAM stick, reseated / powered up and still the same so i switched them around, tried just one stick etc.. still no luck. I flipped the "EZ" cmos switch on the back of my Antec 900 case which apparently is a 'quick' way to clear the cmos on my Abit IP35 Pro XE, hoping that would fix but no luck still :(

Now i'm totally at a loss as for what to do :confused: i don't recieve any "beeps" though i don't think my motherboard comes with a speaker, checked the header for it and there's not one there but i have an LED "guru" panel instead which gives codes, mine says 9.0. which apparently means its booted fine when checked it my manual though on Abit's code page here it says it could be some kind've fault, please look!!

I emailed OCUK and they don't do any repairs after warranty has ran out which i considered doing although i'm broke at the moment... you guys are my last line of hope, been up all night trying to fix this and it's wore me out/drove me insane :(

Any help would be appreciated,
Thank you.

Looking at that link you posted it says the following about a 9.0.

"9.0. Complete µGuru initial processAWARD BIOS take over booting job"

It says the sympton's you should see are this...
"1. Power on -> Stop at 9.0.2. 0.0.-> 8.3. -> 9.0."

Assuming you should see those various numbers appaer on the display on the mobo. Do you see them?

This is what is says to do about it...

1. Clear CMOS
2. Restore default setting for BIOS
3. Replace BIOS chip
4. Send to RMA at last

Sounds like you've already done (1) and (2) so I'm afraid it doesn't look good :(

Are you sure the link you posted to the LED "guru" is correct for your mobo?
Have you tried contacting Abit?

I'm new around here so hopefully someone with some more experience might be able to offer you better advice?

Hi venger7779, yeah it seems to go 9.0. > 8.3. > 9.0., though that seems like a regular boot process, just going by the manual.. though on the abit site it says that could be a problem. I'm not sure if the uguru codes are board specific, just any abit board with a uguru led display.. i think. My board is Abit IP35 Pro XE.

Tempted to take it down to a shop, i've got one quote so far saying it's £35 for a diagnostic/fix then whatever the part costs, not sure if this is normal, never taken anything to a shop before as i've always been able to fix myself, this has just stumped me and being broke atm doesn't really help :/

My new mobo has a cmos reset button but I haven't used it yet. But what I do know of the old "remove battery and move link" cmos resets is, in theory 5 minutes should be long enough to discharge components. In practice, I've known it help to leave it in reset mode for up to half an hour.

This makes me wonder if a pushbutton reset is a good answer for stubborn bios problems. I wonder if it would be worth trying to reset your cmos the old way. Definitely worth a try, don't you think?

Okay i've tried clearing cmos via battery / jumper, no joy. :(
Here's what i've done thus far.. if anyone can think of anything else to try other than a different mobo which i don't have, please let me know:

* Disconnected several fans / tried a lower powered graphics card to test if it was a PSU problem, doesnt seem so.
* Switched RAM slots around, tried one stick etc.
* Reseated Graphics card, Reseated RAM, checked that Heatsink was on tight, checked cables.
* Had a proper look at the capacitors to check for any bulging / leaks, nothing.
* Cleared CMOS via a battery disconnect / jumper.
* Tried different Monitor
* Tried different (lower powered) Graphics Card.

Thanks for any advice.
