This is a bit of a weird one, admittedly. Like lots of people I played EQ back in 99 upto WoW release when I switched.

I’ve always had a soft spot for EQ often returning for short periods over the years and TLPs to scratch the itch but ultimately always left.

Fast forward to just before Xmas, I was reading some Reddit and someone mentioned EQ emulators, and more specifically “The Heroes Journey” Emu server https://heroesjourneyemu.com/

I had a read, downloaded the client m, created a character and have been hooked ever since! It’s literally EQ for Dads, unbelievably fun and everything EQ should probably be nowadays.

So what makes this server different?

1. You can pick a combo of any 3 classes, yes you can be a Paladin Shadowknight Wizard, or a Beastlord Necro Mage etcetc.

2. You get all the spells, skills and AAs from each class. Getting the best option from each ( Hp mana etc)

3. Content is gated to personal progression, ie kill Xx raid mobs (which are all soloable with gear and AAs) to unlock the next expansion. Content is released on a 4-6 week schedule but locked to account progression so progress at your own rate. This is my favourite feature, I don’t feel I have to race anyone else unless I want to.

4. Custom content, while the game and mobs are as close to original as possible the devs (who seem to be awesome) have added some unique custom drops to some specific raid mobs. For example Kerafym the sleeper is fightable in Sleepers Tomb, she drops Vulakk from NToV Loot and an additional custom loot of an Aug specific to her encounter. Kidd Inquisitor Seru drops his normal loot plus an Aug as well if you fight him in a custom manner.

5. Loot, all the loot you knew and love in each expansion, however it has 3 tiers, Green - Normal, Blue -gains some extra stats, Orange -gains heroic stats. Most loot can be put in a power cell slot and levelled up by killing mobs to gain it experience! All epic 1.0 quests are in as well.

6. Server population, as of last week I think they hit 3k consecutive users at once! Downtime is minimal, server performance is as good as live ever was, the devs do an amazing job and very few morons on the server. Plenty of guilds.

Most of us solo raid mobs but will group up first harder content, mobs get harder the more people in a group but drops also increase the more of you there are and also Exp increases.

Best of all it’s completely free!

If your an old school EQ player like myself, 100% go check it out, it may not be for everyone but it’s awesome fun. Servers currently in Luclin with PoP coming early March!

I have fond memories of Everquest. I'd never played something so intense and enjoyable, and I found a good guild to adventure with.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look.

Same here. I had 74 DAYS on my main character. I don't think I have played any other game as much as I did EverQuest back in the day. In fact my main EverQuest character was called Cromulent and I still use that pseudonym to this day.
