Having just re-decorated and re-wired my bedroom, how likely is it that the fact I've re-run the two cat5e network cables (to the same cat5 wall socket), and run them close to a mains feed to wall sockets is causing the link speed to drop to 100mbit? :(

It worked at gigabit before I moved it all. Bah.

Cheers

They are proper twisted pair cat5e? we have 2 seperate runs of approx. 30 meter cat5 to different parts of teh house following the mains cables for most of the way and both do gigabit fine...

Maybe cables got damaged or need a little jiggling in the socket?

I might take the wall box apart when I next have the hifi rack out (it's all a bit "plumbed in" now!!) and re-punch the cables down, but other than that, it's the same cable etc, all that's changed is the position in the room and (very close) proximity to mains cabling :(

Ho hum, I'll live with 100mb ;)

I'd guess it was more likely that you've got a wire loose (fast ethernet uses 2 pairs; gigabit needs all 4 pairs).

Stupid as this may sound, try unplugging any connections and making sure they are free of dust and grime.

A few days ago there was a thread similiar to this, turns out the plug wasn't in the socket fully securely and causing the connection to drop to 100MB.
