bleeding a loop questions.

hi,

I've just put watercooling in my pc and it seems to be taking a long time to bleed, I had it running last night for about an hour and although its better, there are quite a few bubbles and gurgling noises. I have a reservoir at the top of my case and inside is very turbulent and it seems like lots of the bobbles are getting re-circulated rather than coming out of the air hole. the resevoir is full to the brim. is it just a case of leaving it on longer?
I have a ddc pump with petras top, 1/2" tube. pa160 rad mounted at the front o a lian-li pc7 and a resevoir in the 2nd to top 5 1/4" bay. res>pump>cpu>rad is the order.
when I first filled it I overtightened a jubilee clip and it leaked when switched off. I slackened it off and now there are no water leaks when running , could air be getting in?

all seems fine with temps as they are down 15-20 degrees.
I can't take pics etc at the mo because I'm writing this at work on my phone, I'm just trying to get ideas for tonight when I get home.

It is very important to bleed the loop properly. This can involve physically lifting the rig and tilting it to allow all the trapped air to escape.

What I do is ensure that the rad inlet is lower than the rad outlet and both angled upright so all the air is bleed from the rad first. I then tilt the case so the outlet of the cpu block is at higher than the inlet, then all the trapped air returns to the res. I do this with the rig/pump off.

Can you slow the pump down? If so, let it run at a slower rate an take the filler cap off the res and let it run for 10-15 mins after you have completed the tilting exercise!!

Make sure there is room in the res for the trapped air. A full res won't allow this to happen. You may need to take some coolant out.

If you have no option to slow the pump down try pinching the hose from the pump instead.

I spent about 4hr`s on both my loop`s moving the case case from side to side,upsidedown,rightsideup the list go`s on :) what i found that help`s with air bubble`s is turn the pump off from time to time and let it settle down then start it up again.
 
thanks for thoughe replies. good ideas for me to try later. my resevoir is full but the cap is off, would I be better stillto take some liquid out?
the pump is off a molex so I could slow it down I think but I'd rather not mess with the wiring

Repack reservoirs are notorious for being difficult to bleed due to their low depth... leave the pump off and bleed it as much as possible by rotating the case etc... trying to bleed with the pump on with that res will just make life more difficult. Can often help to have excess piping on the reservoir runs, pop it out the front of your case, and tilt it so barbs are at lowest point with res facing to ceiling...
 
I Had 2 repacks and sold them as i had nothing but trouble bleeding my loop`s,whent for the swiftec micro res in the end.
 
thanks guys. my pipes are long enough to bring it outside, ill have a go tonight, bleeding with the pump off seems a good idea.
I thought the repack looked a bit shallow, oh well all part of the learning process.
 
Pinch the hose so presure bild up then let it go, it'll shoot the water around.

Do not adjust the speed of the pump via volts as it'll die in seconds! Has been shown and proven it's not good!

I bled my last rig on top of the washing machine when it was on spin, it shook it all out of the trapped loactions.

Oh and you have got the cap off so the system can breath and equalized the presure
 
thanks for the heads up on the pump voltage.... im at home now, id forgot how many bubbles there were still to get rid of!
