Hi

My front master cylinder doesn't come with a bleed nipple on it.

Is THIS a suitable replacement for my bike as then it would make bleeding a lot easier?

I don't know of any master cylinder that does come with a bleed nipple, as the whole point of bleeding the system is to remove any air pockets that are in the caliper, behind the piston etc, and you do that by flushing liquid & air out of the bottom of the system not the top, sticking a bleed nipple at the top of the system is a waste of time & money.

Most the newer bikes I've seen have a bleed on the MC which allows you to bleed any air stuck in the MC.

I can't see it doing much tbh,if you can't bleed them normally or if they still feel spongy then some things up somewhere

My zx10r had a hairline crack where you screw in the pad retaining pin,and felt spongy,I managed to get a cheap caliper from California and swapped it

My zx6 brakes I can't get them as sharp,I have to pump lever at least once for them to sharpen up,but I'm still on original rubber hoses, replaced all seals aswell

If you are having problems bleeding the brakes, then try reverse bleeding them using a syringe on the caliper bleed nipples. This makes it very easy to purge air from the M/C.

Bleed nipple up on the master cylinder is very useful as air bubbles raise up through the brake fluid so can then build up a pocket of air at the master cylinder end of things.

Which is why reverse bleeding works so well. It just pushes the air back into the reservoir.

Can't promise it works but another method to try for clearing air bubbles at the top of the system if you don't have a bleed point on the master cylinder is to wrap some rags round the banjo bolt/unions then holding the lever in gently loosen off the banjo bolt and let it release fluid until the brake lever is back to the bars. Re-tighten banjo bolt before releasing the lever and pumping system back up to pressure.

Thanks for the tips. I hope to sort my brake issues out once and for all tomorrow!

Finally sorted my brakes out.

The seals were gone on most the pistons and the calipers were also very corroded from both inside and out after a couple of years of all year riding.

I got a pair of refurbished calipers, fitted them and bled the system. I now had properly working brakes but there was still a lot of lever movement before they bit.

I tied the lever to the bar overnight and this morning the lever was solid.

It's made me realise how poorly my brakes were performing previously.

The refurbished calipers were from http://www.powerhouseautomotive.co....-brakes/motorcycle-brake-caliper-services.php

price isn't bad tbh

wern't you tempted to buy second hand calipers from the states? zx10r calipers would fit aswell they are all the same upto a certain year

I only gave £40 for mine

I use my bike daily so the refurb ones I linked to were the quickest option as they came on next day delivery. I swapped them over and sent my old ones back as the exchange ones.

They hold a £70 deposit until you return your old calipers but this worked for me as the bike wasn't off the road.

ohh that's good then, last time I enquired you had to send yours off first, too much faffing

I rebuilt mine on my zx6 new seals/dust seals, they work but you always have to pump them once to get the lever tight
