aah the joys just thought i'd rant here for a bit.

the vectra has decided to hit me with a serious case of expensive bills this week :(

first up was problems with the swirl pot linkage, i did initially bodge this with some tap washers and a wing and a prayer but it doesnt seem to be that effective(having just had to redo again)

so looking at a new inlet manifold and acuator circa 300+ vat

and also this week she's decided to start with a bit of serious dmf rattle so another 550+ vat for a clutch :(

i feel the need for some genuine oem vaseline for tommorows trip to vauxhall :(

Why go to Vauxhall then? ...it's not a rare or special car that no-one knows how to work on, I imagine a decent independent could do it for you.

I'm doing it myself

Those prices are just for the parts and before you ask that's trade club prices

Oh right I see, that clutch costs rather more than I would have thought on a Vectra. The inlet manifold and actuator seems pretty keenly priced though.

I imagine that's clutch and flywheel. Could probably be had for a lot less elsewhere than the main dealer mind

I'm funny that way I like the idea of a known quality part

There's pretty much negligable difference in blueprint stuff and OEM anyhow.

Most are probably made by Exedy/Daikin anyway.

At the end of the day, you're probably not going to own the car one way or another when it dies and no offence - it's just a vectra?

I can get a stage 2 clutch and a flywheel for the same money!

But mines a taxi down time costs me lots of money and to be fair the quality of factors parts is average at best

Yep i must admit if i went out and purchased a Sachs clutch & Dual Mass flywheel myself that would be a totally different item from the one sold by VW.

I mean for starters it doesn't come in a VW branded box, thats gotta be worth the extra £300 they wanted.

some non-oem clutches are pretty rubbish - Transmech for example.

But buying a Sachs, Valeo, LUK etc - I don't see the problem with that.
You can get a Clutch kit AND a DMF for around £480 inc from euro car parts, I don't see the reason for going to the dealership.

if i were paying the full retail i would certainly look for a decent branded item rather than manufacturer parts but i'm paying trade price. the difference between a genuine vauxhall supplied item and a factors part is at most 10% i also like the piece of mind that i'm not going to be sold supposed decent parts and they turn out to be knock offs ala the vw brake pad thing a while back and if it were for the skodas would it hell be getting a dual mass put in, would be getting a smf g60 flywheel and vr6 clutch slung in for much cheapness like both mine have already.

unfortunately no one offers a smf and even if they did i would be wary with the quality of the f40 boxes :(

quick comparison then :)

dealer clutch kit 236+vat say 275 quid euro 263 quid for a luk kit
dealer flywheel is 310+vat euro 250 so a bit of a saving, but again i'd rather have the piece of mind of a genuine dealer backed part for the sake of a few pounds more. a day off the road affects me more than most, i've got to cover my own losses (as this is my car) and that of the driver who does the second shift. it soon adds up so minimal down time is good hence i prefer the dealer route, guaranteed parts and right first time fitment. whilst i can see where people are coming from with the same part different box its more about the service and comeback.

this ones only got 160k miles on it, cant complain as its still on the original clutch and dmf, its not away yet but its starting to rattle. so i know it will be going in the next 10-20k miles better planning ahead and getting it done rather than suffering a breakdown though,

maybe its my irrational hatred of motorfactors kicking in, staffed with their jumped up plebs that know nothing about the parts that they are selling selling poor quality parts at inflated prices preying on unsuspecting people that dont know any better grrr i hate factors :(

* i do realise that not all motor factors are staffed by idiots and perhaps i ask too much that they have an intimate working knowledge of what their selling. ///angry mode off///

Buy your parts online, then you dont have to see the idiots selling them :)

When the dealer replaced the clutch and flywheel on my girlfriend's 150 CDTI Zafira it was a Sachs kit they fitted (A LUK DMF that had failed). Such a common failure they had them in stock ! luckily Vauxhall covered the £1350 bill.

They did advise that part has been revised to prevent a similair failure and cars made post 57 plate have the part. A local taxi driver has a 08 plate Zafira with 215k on the clock with the original clutch/flywheel so there may be some truth that the part has been modified.

that said mine is a 2006 veccy (i know the clutch is different from yours but i'd imagine the flywheel will be the same as their both dth engines) and mines is nudging 160k and still going strong bar a bit of rattle at idle

Unlucky mate - its a shame the sum of those quality parts does not equal a quality car......:p;):D

:D:D:D:D:D

its jealousy i tell yee.

that said i dropped a couple of quid in smash under the ash tray and i'm blaming that on all the rattles. my excuse and i'm sticking to it.

its a worktool nothing more, albeit a slightly tinkered with on e
