Blizzard have decided to add users real first and last names to posts on their forums in a bid to control what's posted on there. You can check out the post here.

I'd be up if such a system were introduced to these forums, pretty much for the same reasons as Blizzard - would you?

I can't say I'd be bothered as both my username and e-mail in my trust is a dead giveaway as to my name :p

With all the idendity theft that goes on ... and what if someone takes a dislike to you in game/forums and wants more details on you, it's just giving them ammo.
And then of course the trouble makers will just register using a false name.

Absolutely terrible decision, the only people that will suffer will be the genuine one's.

Blizzard should get a trusted team of forum mods in if they want to clean the place up.

For most of the stuff I post on here I wouldn't have an issue with it. Some work related technical things I wouldn't be able to comment on any more though.

It's completely pointless, there is no form of integrity or authenticity in these kind of things. If people want to be anonymous they will be, and if they don't then you can publicly display your personal details in your sig or username for all to see :)

I can't read the FAQ on RealID here so like others I'm unsure about what sort of verification is involved, if it relies on the user putting in a name then it's useless, if it relies on credit/debit card details then it's marginally more reliable but still a long way from perfect since many bank cards don't include the first name.

It's not exactly hard to work out my name given one of my email addresses in my Trust so if people want to find it out they can but equally I don't think this is a particularly worthwhile solution and may penalise ordinary users of their service who wish to remain anonymous for a number of possible valid reasons.

A lot of the appeal for using a forum is the anonymity, so taking it away would be a bad idea.

One of the best things about the internet is you choose your level of exposure, you create your own identity and persona with total control. You can even choose to have multiple identities and personas in different areas.

I think it's a terrible idea, especially for an MMO forum. It's alright for those with generic names, but many people have unique names and I'm sure they'd want to avoid all the trouble that goes with being googled, especially when their name is forever linked to WoW and everything they've ever said on that forum.
