Hey guys and gals ive got an iphone 4 .... or 2 rather... i lost this one when i moved house as it was outa battery so i used a spare phone as my charger was already packed, now i reported it lost as i thought id misplaced it, they sent me a new phone and now 6 months later i find the phone and they dont want it back as its imei blocked....

Ive heard imei blocked phones will work over seas is this true as i could sell as a iphone, if not i'd sell as an ipod or keep for spares for my phone... but thought id ask you guys, i also even offered orange to pay for the hanset so i could maybe get it unblocked as it was only a few days old... and they wouldnt do that... is that right ?? or can they unblock em but they wont due to being a pain in the ass lol...

I even still have receipts, matching seriel numbers etc to the box and everything !!!
 
i dont think you can legally sell IMEI blocked phones aswell even if u advertise it as an iPod
 
I did the same once, lost a Samsung handset reported it stolen and had it blocked found it a few months later and gave my phone provider some details and they unblocked it

That was a couple of years back mind so thing might have changed :)
 
I guess if they gave you another they've basically done an insurance claim meaning it probably belongs to them, I'm surprised they're not asking for it to be sent back.

Selling it is dodgy, you'd get peanuts because it looks dodgy. Changing the IMEI is illegal and bloody hard work, its not like unlocking.

Spare parts, ipod or bin tbh.
 
I would either:

Find a trashed iPhone 4 with a good logic board and rebuild into one legal and functioning phone. Sell/keep.

Remove locked logic board and sell/use remaining parts.

Use as a media device/stick in car etc..

I wouldn't sell it as guaranteed you'd get some chancer trying to rinse you one way or another.
 
if the blocked iPhone still has Applecare warranty left..

then take it to Apple shop and explain the iPhone doesn't pick up any signal and then they will exchange to a new Refurbished working iPhone. free of charge. They cant check or care if the phone is blocked and just long as is still in Applecare warranty.

I've swapped many iPhone 3g, 3gs and 4 like this before.

You take IMEI-blocked phones to Apple and swap them for working ones?

That sounds very much like fraud to me (not to mention profiting off other people's misery!)

they can check its blocked, anyone can check if an IMEI numbers been blocked

theyre not morons.
 
Cheers for the info lads, By the way i had no intention of changing imei !!! that wasnt what i ment i should have been clear, In what way do you mean logic boards ? can i buy a smashed iphone 4 and swap parts to make a working one ?
