(Short story: One of the optical drives is blocked, see picture link at the bottom and find more detail below)

Hey, just started assembling the first PC I'm building myself and have come across my first hurdle.

The case is an Inwin EM020, and it has two bays for optical drives; including two 'hidden' panel things (sorry, don't know the proper term!) on the front of the case that fold forward when a disk is ejected.

Anyway, because it has two bays I bought a DVD read/write drive and a read only Blu-Ray drive. But now that it's all arrived I've found the case has this metal panel, thing, which blocks off one of the drives. I would assume it's somehow removable (I can't think of a single reason why it wouldn't be, but then I can't think of a reason for having the darn thing!) although I fear I'm going to have to cut the metal somehow.

Here's a picture as best as I could get!

Sorry that's not the best image ever!

At the top you can see the flappy panel part of the top bay and below a piece of metal covering the bottom bay. Any ideas how I get it out so that I can install the other optical drive?

Many thanks in advance!

If you can remove the covers, You'll just be able to snap the little metal thing off. Not sure why its there, But they generally have them on all cases.

Edit - If you can get your hands inside, Grab the top and pull towards you, It should just snap off.

Just sort of keep twisting it round and it'll come off.

Not sure what the reasoning is but they're often in new cases. Think it's probably to do with dust if you're not going to be using them?

Ok, awesome. There is a little gap (it kind of 'bumps' out slightly) with a screwdriver sign next to me, but with my view of "softly softly" when it comes to all things PC related, the idea of just using a screwdriver as a lever to snap something off never occurred to me :P I'll give it a shot and report back with how it went! :D

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated :)

The metal in the slot is part of the EM shielding of the case. It will just have two tiny little bits of metal or spot welds to hold it on. You just snap it out like you would when you take off the top of a can of beans. You can usually just twist it off, or work it backwards and forwards like you were trying to break a paperclip.

Update:

Yup, it just snapped out with a bit of wiggling, so thanks for the advice :D

Annoyingly, the case seems to be so poorly designed that it appears to be impossible to install the second optical drive due to a stupid hand hold in the case. The handhold goes into the case (it's simply pressed metal) which prevents you from being able to line up the drive when trying to slid it into the bay. :/
