blocked windows 8.1 activation code !!!!

EVERYONE !! I basiclly got scammed, it was a MSDN key , I now was on the chat with microsoft and the person told me to contact ebay and request a refund .

You're going to get zero help from eBay and zero money back since it's been at least 9 months since you purchased which means the time frame for reporting it and getting your money back has long since passed.

Not sure if a time limit is associated with feedback, but I left an amendment to original feedback after going through a claim.

You won't get anything back after 9 months
Can you imagine how long you would have to wait selling anything of this was the case

50 pounds, for a lesson in life (+ extra for new windows)

Lol same thing happened to me with Windows 7. Stopped working about 2 and a half years later and then I found out it was an MSDN key.

Try reporting it to Action Fraud
http://www.actionfraud.police.uk

You can also report it to Microsoft and they might send you a free copy of windows.

same thing happened to me when i purchased windows 7 ultimate for a too good to be true price on ebay. came with a retail box / dvd and everything but stopped working after 3 months. msdn key :(

lesson learned.

Similar things with counterfeit software have happened with third party sellers on big retailer websites.

I imagine it was easier to get the money back either from seller directly or retailer site hosting seller.

You cant always trust what the automated system shows, and either the support, they do little more than you do at home. I have keys from microsoft, where i have the receipts, and emails with the codes from upgrades. But the automated system says its not genuine, and iv been a victim of fraud, the support cant help, except put the codes in from their end, and get the same answer.
Though they do work, if you roll all the way back, to W7, upgrade to 8, then 8.1. So all im saying is microsoft have issues

Either pirate it or buy full price.

Those are your two options.

No point paying someone else to give you a dodgy key, you'll be worse off.

I snapped it up when it was cheap from MS directly.

Yep, you've been done up like a kipper.

Theres a reason not to buy keys from eBay and this is one of them. Especially if it doesn't come with a COA.

Been there, done that. Worked fine for a year or two, then blocked.

I was just about to say this is likely to be the case. Selling MSDN/Technet keys has been an issue for a long time and this is why you don't buy keys off ebay. The certificate of authenticity is the important part that shows you have a genuine licence.

Just out of interest, What if you are buying second hand from a seconds shop, as there are plenty around these days which sell PC stuff. I have seen many with box copies of Windows, with all the stuff. Can that be safe, personally i would"nt, but as this thread exists, it shows people do look for a bargain. You may not find an issue perhaps till after 6 months, which i think is common for second hand shop warranties.

Microsoft changed the amount of keys you can get from MSDN but I just counted and I can still generate 38 non-volume keys for Server 2012 for example.

Given an MSDN license costs ~£700 that's not a bad profit at £50 a go. Especially when you know they're selling keys for all the other OS's as well.

The bottom of the following link sums it up...

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Software.aspx#Digital

Basically they don't distribute product keys as standalone products. The exception to this is Product Key Cards which are distributed with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker.

I fell foul to similar scam back with XP as an OEM package, very plausible with a colour printed booklet and COA shrink wrapped and professional looking printed surface CD. Back then I was able to follow MS fraud process as I had proof of my ebay purchase and they kept their side of the bargain by providing me with a legit copy which turned out to be a retail licensed version which was very handy when creating new PC with W8.

The above link also suggests that you only get a COA if you buy a physical copy of their software or of course a pre built system. Therefore for those of us that bought W8 as a digital download upgrade am I right in thinking we don't have a COA or is the COA from the original upgrade qualifying software remain our COA?
