Blocking adblock? (How do I stop my ads being blocked?)

I run a few very subtle respectable google ads which over the period of a year cover the hosting and domain name for a (relatively) small website of mine which has been going for about 5 years.

During this time I have considered canning the whole thing, but have kept it going because it at least covers its own costs.

Yet it seems these days everyone is running ad blocking plugins, which could potentially mean me pulling the plug on my site if/when they become so common that ads just aren't being clicked.

So are there any simple ways to prevent such addons blocking my ads and thus potentially being responsible for the future closure of my site!?

You can't force adverts to load. But you can:
1. ask users to place an exemption for your domain (only works if you have regular users)
2. check if the user is using adblock and then don't serve the page properly.
Not 100% on this, but the basic idea is to serve up something that you know will get blocked by one of the loose filters (place a script/image under domain.com/ads/) then when the page loads check your httpd log to see if the user hit the trick ad.

Is it really worth while? Domains cost £6 per year, and unless you're running a dedicated server, which I doubt, your hosting costs can't be that much.

The only way I can think is to host the ad content on your own website, which you can't do with Google ads.

As already stated ask regular users for you domain to run ads or ask for donations to help with server costs.
