Blocking Xbox from the Internet

Hello all,

Is there anyway to block an Xbox from accessing the internet?

It's connecting through a router on wireless; Belkin G+ Mimo - What i need to be able to do is block the internet access through to the xbox at certain times say 1till2, or just Manually shut it off then i can let it on again.

I can't do anything physically to the router like unplug wires and i don't want to change the password.

Any ideas?

What router have you got? easiest way would probably be to block the MAC address of the Xbox. Some routers will allow you to do this on a timer, others will just have to have it set on and off.

Just put the password on the xbox different to the actual one.

Change the wireless passphrase presumably, but that means accessing the Xbox to disconnect it and again to reconnect it (or changing the passphrase on the router which would mean changing it on any other wireless devices you have).

I wasn't actually suggesting doing it...

As J.B said, it depends on whether your router has any function for blocking devices on a timer.

Each network interface has its own unique MAC address so the MAC address of the xbox will be unique. What you need to do is block this MAC address from connecting to the internet. You can do this with your Belkin router in the Wireless>MAC Address Control section. It's in your router manual.

What JB and tolien were suggesting is that if the router had the facility to allow you to automatically schedule when this MAC address is blocked then do that. This would automatically block and unblock the MAC at the times that suit you. I don't believe your router has that automatic function but someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Thank you, I've found that section but i don't know the MAC of the xbox.

If the password on the router is chalk then put it as cheese on the xbox then it won't connect,then when you wanna go on just put it right.

Pretty much every electrical product you buy nowadays has a manual downloadable from the manufacturer's website. Here is your router manual:

Download it and keep it for reference.

Page 52 will tell you how to find the MAC address of your xbox assuming it's connected at the time and page 65 will tell you how to block the MAC address. I hope you'll be OK from here.
