I have a little blog I made about technology things but I've never really blogged regularly, I just post every now and again. I'd like to change that and blog more regularly. The problem is I don't know what to blog about. My main areas of knowledge are technology, programming, mental health and a little bit of politics.

I was thinking of writing about mental health and also do diary style posts but I'm not sure if people would be interested. Does anyone have any ideas or tips?

Are you a developer? A blog about mental health and development? Ever suffered from burnout? How do you balance things and recharge?

Why would you like to change to posting more? Because you actually want to or because you think you ought to ?
What are you going to get out of it for yourself?

What I’m getting at is whether you’re going to put yourself under pressure to create which may come at the expense of your enjoyment sort of thing.

If I’m brutally honest when it comes to blogs, I generally switch off very quickly and couldn’t care less if it’s a me me me style of writing. I’m far more engaged if the topic content is interesting and not all about the person.

If you're looking to blog with the aim of getting yourself some attention in the job market, then I'd suggest doing it on somewhere like LinkedIn. Very few people will go looking for a blog these days, but if an algorithm picks up what you're talking about is relevant to X amount of other users, then you're got more of a fighting chance.

Is it still worth having a blog from an seo point of view? It used to be an easy way to get up the Google rankings if you had an active website/blog.

ccurious to know this too. every seo people i talk to suggest it is still required, but i can't see why spamming a load of articles is something google give any value to

I think you need to decide WHY you want to write a blog.

If you just want to write some thoughts down and don’t care who reads it, then knock yourself out.

If you want to raise your profile for job hunting, write articles directly on LinkedIn.

If you want to build an audience, something like Medium or Substack is probably the way to go.

I have a personal blog still, which is increasingly irrelevant these days. Only reason I keep it is that I use the email on the domain a fair bit.

I ended up getting my blog online. Got a few ideas for more content but I'm mainly doing it for interest and to have a place to post my CV.

Managed to get my blog up and running. Managed to get 1.9K uniques in the last 30 days so pretty happy with things in the short term.

Good stuff. Wait until Google decide that actually they don't want to link to information sites any more and would rather just ai summarise everything. I fear that will be the death of original content as no one will get views of clicks any more

My main goal is a way to get a job by showing what I know and I also have my CV on the site. Getting readers is great but I find the act of blogging helps me remember things which is just as important.
