I know what they are, and I'm thinking about making one now that we are expecting a baby, so I can show relatives photo's and stuff....

Where do I start?

Is it a company that does them?

Do I have to pay?

Do I need my own webspace?

I dont know anything about them apart from what they are, I always thought it was a totally gay idea and hate reading them so never looked into it before. But now I have a decent reason to want to post our thoughts and developments in an easliy acessable way :)

Any help would be much appreciated,

Cheers

G

You can buy webspace, and install wordpress. You can also use other sites like blogger for example, where you just sign up and customise your page...as far as I'm aware.

Wordpress is good. I installed one a while ago, build a theme and never used it :p

Definitely check out Wordpress. It is, as the site says "an easy and powerful way to start blogging".

I use my blog mainly for links, which keeps all my favourites in one easily accessible place, but also for tech info, saving funnies, and posting the odd personal post.

I am slightly biased towards Wordpress due to friend of mine being one of the developers (in fact the first employee of the company) but if in doubt just check out the page on notable users.

ok, you need to click the little picture in your text editor

Sorry for the crap arrow :p

a little box will pop up and just take off your tags and put in the http: address and it should do it for you :)

Or alternatively, click the little HTML button (no more arrows I'm afraid :D) and add it in there.

Ahhhhhhhhhh blogs. I was talking about blogs at work today. I came to what is effectively a blind corner leading into the offices and I told my mate how I made a blog the other night... I said, 'Yea, there was nothing to it really, but the title was breasts,' a little bit too loud as the MD walked round the corner laughing. It was a moment where you had to be there... awful timing.

Never heard of wordpress before! That looks good :)

I've used Livejounal for years, just because thats the one most of my friends/contacts are on and its used much more to keep in contact with people than to keep notes on my own life.

Wordpress rocks and with my own little edits (header image) can look sexyyy and most hosts will have auto-installers for it but if they don't it takes about 30 seconds to do yourself.

www.wordpress.org - read all about it

www.ochostreview.co.uk - pick a good hosat, as (mostly) voted by OcUK users - essentially, any host with PHP/MySQL can support Wordpress :)

www.google.co.uk/adsense - read all about it - essentially you get paid when people click the ads :)
