Blood Doners

Am sure there's been a post on this before - no it doesn't hurt - I give blood twice a year when the transfusion lorry arrives at my work.

Way i see it I also get paid to give blood, the main thing is you never know when you might need it yourself !

donate 3 times a year at the earliest possible time there is a convenient appointment, need ones that go into the evening due to working 30mins out of town

doesnt hurt, doesnt cost anything, and some get that warm fuzzy feeling from doing something good

oh and you get free gimmicks, its all about the free gimmicks, especially the key ring at donation no.2 :p

Now and again...

Us donors like doing the odd bit of pimping now and again - it seems depressing that only about 7% of people donate, despite the fact that over 50% could if they chose.

Couldn't agree more - it doesn't take long either, well not if you dont include the time it takes to drink the juice and eat the chocolate biscuit :D

I'm meant to be donating tomorrow but have a horrible cold/man flu so I don't think they will want me!

People who don't give blood are stupid, takes maybe an hour of your time (if that) and you get to help someone if they have an accident. Just think of that if someone you know needs blood!

I want to do it, i feel like i may have saved someones life then... and that would make me feel good, doing something like that for someone else... to help a family have a member of their own back.

Cant imagine the feeling that must give.

One of the most selfless good deeds around. Ive already given money for rememberance day this year, i wouldnt mind giving blood.

jehova witnes?

Nope, i just detest needles and blood. So donating blood is probably the worst thing i could ever do. I turn into a big girl if i have to have an injection. God knows what would happen if i had to have a blood test, i seriously think i'd refuse flat out.

i used to do it here at work in Belgium until they didn't want my blood anymore as I'd lived in the UK between 1983 and 1996 for more than 6 months.

CJD :o

still don't want me more than 5 years later.

I've been out the country for 10 years not showing any mad cow signs yet ...

(touches wood).

I did faint once after it. Weirdest feeling of my life as I knew it was going to happen but couldn't stop it.

HA-Ha that's stupid, all countries have mad cow disease.

But CJD can incubae for decades before appearing which is why even after 10 yeras they won't accept it.

I'd love to give it but they didn't want it due to having a heavy weekend beforehand, one day it'll be clean enough to give.

Thanks for the reminder, been meaning to sign up as an organ donor for ages, just applied to get the forms sent to me. (Something which I think should be compulsory unless you choose to opt out of it, a lot of people I speak to say they would if they could be bothered, seems like such a waste.)

Will be visiting the blood donor centre again soon as well. :)

I donate platelets, like Meridian but I'm currently in the middle of a 1 yr ban due to failing the Hb test 2-3 times on the trot :( Should be able to donate again in March 2008 and am really hoping that I can start again. Really feel pretty crappy that I can't donate at the moment! They've said that my Hb level is perfectly normal and I'm not anaemic. It's just not high enough to donate. Bah!
