It is stupidly high at the moment and it's only going to go one way. I very very rarely go for 'drives just for the hell of it' anymore as its too expensive

Why yes of course all necessary services can be provided in a country with a population of SIXTY MILLION with less tax.
All the other European countries with fantastic public services (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium..) have very low tax rates. And equally large populations.
