Blow out on the M1

I was on the M1 Southbound yesterday, I was in the outside lane over taking a few cars, then I turned into the middle lane to overtake a truck when I felt a thud when going over the cats eyes, I though that was a bit strange, so after I overtook the truck I crossed into the driving lane and again I heard a thud on the cats eyes, I then carried on a bit as there services were about 5 miles away, I then over taked another truck, and then I heard nothing as I changed lane, I then went back into the driving lane, then Bang as my tyre went on the offside front.

I managed to put the spare on and drive on to my destination & back home

I always thought it was 2 overtaking lanes & 1 driving lane ;)

I am not sure what caused the blow out, air pressure was fine, all 4 tyres were changed at the same time, guess I'll have to put it down to bad luck, I suppose :(

Where is the best place to go for my new tyres then, I suppose I might as well change both of the front tyres to match them up, unfortunaly I don't know what tyres are any good these days

my tyre stats are as follows:-

195/55 H15

TIA :)

mystic, did you make it into the services or have to change the tyre on the hard shoulder. can be a bit scary changing an offside wheel on the hard shoulder just a few feet away from trucks speeding past.

No , I didn't make it to the services, I had to change it over on the hard shoulder. I was quite lucky as I was parked underneath one of those digital sign boards and I was given some extra room to park up, until I got it sorted :)

This was my first blow out as well. I have been driving since 1990. So its an experience for me and a good learning curve, espically as I haven't changed a tyre before as well and being on the hard shoulder isn't any fun and quite dangerous to boot :)
