The fan blower thing in my car seems to have stopped working (well it don't work on the first or second speed but will work on the third and fourth).

It's not really a major problem but it would be nice to fix if its something easy.

Anyone have any ideas? My car is a Rover 414 btw.

And no it hasn't had HGF yet. ;)

It'll be the resistor pack switch thing in the dashboard where either the first or second stage (in your case likely the second) is broken.

Should be easy and cheap to swap out for another one. I had the same problem with my civic, I think the part was about £15 or so to fix it.

The resistor pack is screwed into the side of the fan, which is behind the glovebox. You may need to remove the glovebox, but it's only 4 screws IIRC.

I repaired mine using a few 10watt ceramic resistors and it's been fine ever since, but I don't think they are overly expensive to buy new.

Had the same on my Civic VTi, settings 3 and 4 don't go through a resistor do they? hence still working.

Setting 4 doesn't iirc, setting 3 does, but only a fairly mild one (the higher the resistance, the slower the fan turns), it's usually 2 that goes, as thats where most people tend to set it and leave it. Once 2 goes, 1 also won't work as they are in series with each other (again iirc)

Dolph, you had an MB6 right? Mines packed up - where is this pack and how did you fit it?

You remove the glove box then 4 screws in the side of the centre column of the dashboard by the heater and it just sort of unclips, then clip the new one in.

Hardest part is getting the glovebox out iirc.
