Blown Power Supply

Hi
I switched my PC off went to work.came back switched back on and nothing!!
Power light still on,on the motherboard but nothing working.
Tried a spare power supply hdd's,cd's all working but no fans or life any where else.
Post beeps with spare power were 5 very quick beeps followed by one longer one.
Have reset cmos ,to no avail.
Have looked every where (including ami site)but cant find this error sequence anywhere!!
Help anyone please.

Thinking...isn't Asus P4PE..

Or I might have wrong board....grr @ ASUS and silly numbers

Was the PSU you took out broken?

Yes,well I presume so as the spare power supply that I have, fired up the hd's and optical drives but nothing else!!

if you have a DMM, test the old PSU like say here.

24 pin is here.

Leave battery out and clear CMOS etc, abd if that fails then you may have a problem

Ok, thanks I will try that when I get home.
Any idea whether it would be a mobo problem or CPU?

Something I hate is when it's either CPU or mobo

You can't test either alone, so I guess look for bad caps on mobo at best.

Last resort might be leaving CPU out and seeing if the beeps change.
