hi all ...

i`ve now got a few blu rays collected an i`am finding/noticing that when i watch blu ray movies there isn`t/dosen`t seem to be a layer change ...

now i have nearly a 1000 dvd`s an theres some good ones where the layer change happens an u don`t notice, say when the screen goes dark for a change of scene or cut , an some are so bloody obivous like in mid sentence .. realy hated this about DVD`s ...

just wondering has anyone noticed any layer changes in there blu rays while watching a movie ?? cause i haven`t noticed any yet in the films i have ..

is this something they`ve manged to get rid of ? plz i hope so :)

I have a few discs with problems at around the time for layer change (of course I cant be sure)

Its certainly fair to say that its possible depending on the quality of the transfer/encode that it wouldnt need to do a layer change, however I think its certain with the longer movies with DTS MA sound on the newer discs its just become fast enough not to be noticed (I believe BR players have several seconds of buffer also)

As I understand it, it's all down to internal buffer within the players.
Some of the cheaper DVD players didn't have effective buffers to deal with layer changes. I assume that most BD players will work around it.

I have never EVER noticed a 'layer change'. I didn't even know they existed!

I used to notice them occasionally.

The layer break is usually hidden between scenes, so you don't notice it, like between a fade to black.

One film that I really remember though was Kingdom of Heaven.
There was a scene where Bloom jumped off his horse, and before his feet hit the ground, the layer break was there, and paused for a split second.

Quite unusual though.

Vin.

EDIT: This was the rental version.

EDIT2: I have well over a hundred blurays, and can honestly say I've never seen a layer change hiccup. To be honest, I'd totally forgotten about them.

That was my point. :D
I don't know if they have fixed the stuttering, they just don't need them yet.

I can promise you - dual layers within the main feature are definitely being used on majority of BR films now

They were running out of space on the single layers usiing an inferior codec about a year ago (while using the 2nd layer for the extras) without even considering DTS MA sound

I had the original DVD release of Armageddon; it came on a dual sided not dual layered disc. Now that's a noticable change.

still better than a 3 side laserdisc :p
