Blu-ray/DVD vanishing.

Ooook, So I installed a blu-ray and it worked fine for a while then one day....it vanishes from "my computer"...I replaced it with a spare DVD -RW and the same happens, Ive reinstalled windows today and neither of them are picked up...


Any ideas what could be wrong?! I have 0 ideas.

Running win7 ultimate 64 bit
i5 760 @ 2.8
8 gigs of ram

Are they showing in the bios?

Are they on the primary (motherboard chipset) SATA ports or on a third party (highpoint, Sis etc) port?

ave you tried the drive on a different port?

If they are showing in the bios it's a windows issue.
If they are on a non primary (IE the Intel default) ports it could be a driver issue,
If they are working on one port but not another it could be a driver issue, or a dead sata port (assuming they don't show in the bios).

As a general rule a check in the bios soon tells you if it's likely to be software (driver) or hardware of some kind that is at fault.
