Blu-ray MKV Playback, DNLA server/client?

Sadly, it really isn't what it was and each update introduces more issues and fixes none of the main bugbears and it's become so Yankcentric it's not even funny anymore.
 
I built an unRAID server on a really old PC I had lying round (Q9650 and 8GB RAM). It handles all the downloads I need (Sab, Radarr etc) and runs Plex Media Server, all running as a docker containers. Streaming from a Plex client on the PS4, TV shows and 1080P AC3 rips lower than about 12GB all played with no problems from the PS4, but anything higher would see buffering. Bought a Shield which plugs into a YSP2700 soundbar and I haven't found anything it won't play, regardless of size or audio format and DTS-HD is direct-played by the Shield with no problem. I don't have a 4K screen at the moment so can't vouch for direct play when that's in the mix.

I can't talk the Shield up enough as a home entertainment hub. I've had various Kodi boxes and own a few Chromecasts plus have the PS4 and and Xbox One as streamers but it just wipes the floor with them when it come to speed, ease of use and the ability to play everything I've thrown at it without blinking.
 
I had so many problems getting the QNAP NAS box to work over 24hours - turns out chrome doesn't show half the options in it's web interface, configuring it from scratch with firefox and it's much better...
 
Got my alfasense h96 plus pro. 3gb ram,64 gb rom, octo core. £60

installed superceleron rom, and the update, installed kodi, in the process of scanning my lan for music/video files. Seems pretty good. A bit fiddly compared to the other media streamer box, but it's more configurable and of course got the full play store.

41K in antuntu.

Can't test 4K because don't have 4K TV, nor atmos, so check if it's ok.
 
well seems ok. Read post from wrxtasy, seems just to rant and not give good reasons. And for £60 seems fine, updates my TV (Pioneer LX-5090) to full smart functions, able to play H265 HVC.
Heard about Rockchip, no kodi support.
 
I can now confirm - this QNAP TS-453A NAS with Plex Media Server installed, and the Nvidia Shield - are doing exactly what I want. Serving 30gb+ MKV with True HD (atmos) surround where applicable.

6 down, 300 to go.

If you convert movies to 320x240 mono sound, you'll save a lot of space. Think of all the movies you can put on 12TB.
 
Even though the oppo-203 does not not do streamed dtshd, have you experimented to see if it may upscale the blu-ray 1080 better, for your 4k projector, than the projector itself ?
or the PQ looks identical.

(in my case, I have found Panasonic TV upscaling is better than humax boxes, and previosuly looked a bit at the MPC/MADVR add-on to do on the fly s/w upscale - but do not really have the cpu horsepower for that)

:) I hope the difference is negligible.. OHNO another spanner in the works! I will try it out.

You could have done that without plexd installed, but then you dont get the pretty front end lol.

Hope you got round that riplock issue lol

ordered another bluray drive, external one - pioneer - comes with 'quiet' mode enabled but you can turn on performance in the software - should be faster :) maybe i can even have two drives running at once.. probably
