Just installed a blu ray player into this pc from an old one and looking to find good software for it. I've installed the Cyberlink Suite it came with but the PowerDVD is only version 7 and has limited uses. For example no DVD upscaling and limited (if any?) surround sound support. Keeps asking me to upgrade to version 12 ultra, bugger that for £60-72.

I see Corel WinDVD 11 Pro and Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 Ultra are the latest from both companies, is there any others that I should be looking at? Anyone have any expience with these and which is best? I gather Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 is very buggy?

Cheers.

VLC has bluray support now, but only unencrypted i.e. homemade and its experimental. They couldn't include the necessary files for off the shelf disks because they licensed, conveniently by the people who make the disks, to people who make playback software that requires regular licensing.

They did however point out on their forum that they can be put into vlc should someone want to ;)

TMT is my current favorite.

MPC and VLC aren't worth faffing about with if you just want a good, well presented, working solution to blu-ray.

I wish MPC-HC had a BR addon that you could buy, all the players that can play BR have truly terrible interfaces

TMT 5 is good, I found it started to stutter though.

I'm now using J. River Media Centre 17, it's fantastic. Only negative is it won't display the BluRay menu.
