Hi All,

I was going to build a HTPC but can't afford it at the mo but want to get into the Blu-ray market.

This is my current rig that i built earlier this year.

Asus P5KC Mobo
Intel core 2 duo E6400 which is OC to 3.25Ghz (8*406)
4gb of Geil Ram PC2-6400 (400Mhz)
Gigabyte 8800GT (512)
All in an Antec 900 with a Arctic Freezer pro 7 running Vista.

This is connected to both a Philips W/S monitor which i use for playing COD4 and other games, surfing the web and general pc stuff and for watching downloaded films i use my Pioneer 42" plasma via a dvi to hdmi cable and for audio i use the s/pdif out put to my Sony 5.1 amp.

So if i buy a LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Rewriter & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive and put it in my rig will this work ok and am i going to get Blu-ray quality picture?

As for the sound i am limited by my Sony amp to 5.1 but will this work ok or is the whole thing just not that simple????

Also not sure about 'HDCP' stuff..........will this cause me issues?? The spec on the 8800gt said it has hdcp support.

Anyway any advise or issue i need to be aware of would be a help.

Thanks in advance

you will need sutable playback software (LG usually bindle this) and a shed load of updates of windows and of the player but should work out fine provided the dvi out has HDCP compatibllity (basically a copy protection technology)

I would wait for bluray drives to drop in price, they are still over priced. Thats jut my opinion though!

As others have said you need a combination of 3 things to get blue-ray from your computer:

1) Blueray Drive
2) Compatible software like PowerDVD (can be bundled with your blueray drive)
3) HDCP compatible GFX card using either DVI or HDMI OR use AnyDVD HD to strip this protection
