Blu-Ray stats and info.

There's a nice list over AVS Forums detailing which titles are the most visually stunning :)

bah, wish this format war would end...

This is one of the problems I have with getting a PS3, half of the cost is the Blu-Ray drive, which gaming wise is too much money for too little difference. I want a HD player for my HD TV, but I dont want to pick a format... With exclusives on either... Some dual format players are coming out and if this isnt settled soon we will see a lot more dual format players... Which leads me to believe I will have to buy a new HD player aswel as a PS3, making the PS3 a big waste of money.

Can anyone link the thread about stunning visuals?

slightly misunderstood thread meaning thought you meant read write times of different players etc and the "new blue laser" which was displayed on the lovely engadget still cool linkage though

Trust me blu-ray will win. It's a few announcements away from delivering a hd-dvd death blow.

HD-DVD could never win.

Fox / Sony / Disney would never release on HD-DVD. Sony for obvious reasons and the other two like Copyright Protection too much. With HD-DVD only carrying AACS which has shown it's weaknesses already is not enough for Fox / Disney.

hd-dvd could only hope to survive in a dual format scenario which the public and retailers do not want.

its either a blu-ray win or neither. I can't see both formats failing because of all these hdtv's been sold. BTW format wars im never wrong with so have faith in me.

isn't Disney working on a hybrid

agree totally btw but i dont think hd dvd will die i think the dual player will come into view and people will go ok fine easier for us but with blockbuster goin blue ray only and ps3 inbuilt blue ray larger capacity discs (yes hd has that 1 extra gig but is the blue ray disc gonna go 3 layer ???)

Just out of interest why is this in the gaming section surely it would be better in home cinema.
But anyway I personally think at the moment HD-DVD has the upper hand in quality at the moment compared to blu-ray. The transfers of the Matrix and newly released 300 are simply breathtaking compared to the standard dvd releases. The level of detail, clarity in picture and overall presentation I find more appealing on HD-DVD than blu-ray.

Although blu-ray is supposedly outselling HD-DVD this is purely down to the number of titles available for both format.

Although I don't own a blu-ray player and probably will only get one for titles like the 5th element remastered and LOTR triliogy (assuming that will be a BD exclusive) I find that HD-DVD offers everything that I need in a HD format.

As for up coming title I don't know who's will be better but I do know I am just enjoying all the HD content that is starting to come out and with seeing new movies in the cinema like transformers they will look simply awesome on HD.

TL-51gb is as likely to appear as is a triple layer blu-ray disc. It's just trying to put one over the blu-ray camp. They have admitted it wouldn't even work in 1st gen players anyway.

Good link OP!, I'm expanding both my HD-DVD collection and BR collection and it's a pain finding out about new releases and what's on the catalogues already!!

I'd have to disagree with your gut instincts, I don't see this as a 'war', more of an experiment.. Logic usually goes out of the Window in these situations, and basing judgements on past experiences will lead to a 50/50 guess at best..

Figures so far are just so small, any sudden swell on either 'side' looks dramatic, DVD's still outsell both HD-DVD and BR 1000:1 accross the board..

Future success relies on Joe Public's take up, and with HD-DVD poised to hit the sub £100 player imminently, I'd say that it's still anyone's game..

Ultimately, I see the future as HD material delivered via download.. something oddly that Sony and MS are buying into bigtime....

The main thing that HD DVD has going for it is its exclusive deal with Universal, i think if (and possibly when) Universal chose to start to BD films it will be the end of HD-DVD. Blockbuster in the US have sided with BD, most stores in the UK ive seen the HD-DVD sections have either been shrunk down to a few titles or replaced by BD. Looking on the rainforest site (US) BD is now cheaper and have more titles available so If i was unsure and wanted a HiDef DVD player i would side with Blu-ray.
Anyway I stuck it in here not the AV bit as I guess most BD players in the UK are PS3's and as the PS3 is a console, thought more PS3 owners would see it in here rather than the AV forums thats all.

I openly admit I got a PS3 solely because it was a cheap BluRay player :o

At the moment I have 6 titles (40+ FrankJH  ) and none of them are re-buys, so my overall collection is expanding nicely.

With the upcome of HAZE, MGS4 and GTA4 I can see the console side of the console stand out (and won't seem like a ripoff for people who bought it as a console), but primarily for me the BluRay Player is the side that gets most attention and I couldn't be happier :)

I just hope this silly format war ends sooner rather than later.. I hate walking around picking up a disc thinking "cool" for it to be on one format and not t'other.. I think it's going to be more convenient once the releases are all standardized.

I think for use, with the money and consoles, it's an easier choice (I have both, so don't really mind too much!).
But if your parents spent £700 on a HDTV (The majority are under £1000) and have a choice of £425 (BR) or £150(HD-DVD) for a HD player, the choice for them is much easier.. the vast majority of consumers are non-gamers that don't have large disposable incomes, and they are the people that have to attach to one format or the other and who will bring the money in.. we gamers are just a drop in the ocean..

Another plus point for Bluray then ;)

heh, quite true. I have the Martrix Trilogy on HDDVD and find it best to pretend that no.s 2 and 3 don't exist. Love the first and the Animatrix though.

The main thing HDDVD has going for it is decent movies.

*kicks over tiny Blu-ray collection*
