I tried the demo for that last night and turned it off in less than 5 minutes. It was the most irritating thing I have ever encountered. And totally confusing (though might have gotten past that with more time, it was just too irritating to try)

Is that a good indication of what RPG's are like on console? It was just the whole thing of coming across some silly looking thing, the going into this other arena type thing for "combat", coming back out after doing god alone knows what.... and the music... yuck!

What other games are like this? Just so that I know to avoid them!

This is very Final Fantasy (Different view for combat) (Being that it was the same head guy)

Every RPG is differrent, Mass Effect for example is real time combat, so you play it like a 3rd person shooter in effect. Then you have the Diable type games which are more hack and slash. Also you have the KOTOR type which is a nice mix of turn based and real time.

Don't judge all RPG's based on your experience of BD, I for one liked BD and played it through to completion but I also liked KOTOR so it all down to personal choice.

That's the traditional way Japanese RPGs work. It's understandably not everyone's cup of tea. Although if the battle system is your main gripe, you might like Final Fantasy XII. The battles in that flow much more and don't drop you into a separate arena.

Western RPGs like Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, Diablo, etc. are pretty much a completely different genre of game.

The demo for Blue dragon is bad as well, It drops you in with way too much stuff to play with but little instruction on how to control it.

Its not a game i loved but the full game at least developes abit better.

Dont worry thats just Japanese RPGS. Try a game like Mass effect or Oblivion as they sounds more to your (and my) taste.

I bought Kameo cause I thought it sounded kind of nice and light, and might be fun... is it the same as BD?

Have also bought Jade Empire as is sounded like I might enjoy it.... again, is it like BD?

Having a limited experience of RPG's, being limited to Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights, and having only played those on PC, was just unsure what the RPG experience was going to be like on console.

Was given Blue Dragon free, at first I hated it, but after the first 30mins of playing it's actually quite a good little RPG.

No where near as good as FF VII but certainly a lot more fun that what I was expecting.

No and No. Kameo is a adventure game, more like Tomb Raider than a RPG, oh and its brilliant. Jade Empire is like Knights of the Old Republic with real time combat, so its a standard RPG, and also brilliant. Good game choices there! :)

Blue Dragon full game is actually a lot better than the demo. Its just the voice acting that puts me off playing it for long periods of time.

I found it way too childish but with swear words thrown in. :p I couldn't get involved unfortunately, And i played it a fair few hours too.

Well, this weekend its going to be hard to pick what to play. Have just started GOW, have Ninja Gaiden sitting here next to me, plus got MK deception, The Suffering, and a few others.... :D

Don't think I will be leaving the house much :)

I set it to Japanese voice and left it at that.

I really like the game, on the third disk but levelling up takes forever

Blue Dragon is terrible, don't let your experiance of that put you off decent turn-based RPGs like Final Fantasy. It has perhaps the worst voice acting I've ever experianced in a game.

BTW you should enjoy Kameo, it's a great little game but a completely different style to BD.
