Hi all,

Not sure if it should be here or general tech. Anyways, I managed to stop my old mobo working during a BIOS flash and bought a new one (ASrock 939SLI32-eSata2), all installed, startup and all seems great.

Now I get to start a fresh install and on the copying setup files bit I keep getting random files saying they haven't copied across properly...hitting enter to try again always copied them. The problem being at some point during this it would blue screen :(

Not sure of the best approach, first I'm going to get everything I can off the drive, then try another copy (legal) of XP and see if I have the same issues but can anyone think why this might be happening?

Cheers!

Paul.....currently using his really slow server!

Hi Mate, don't I know you from somewhere?? ;)

Anyway, I know it sounds kind of obvious have you checked the CD for scratches etc?, I've had the exact same symptoms before and sure enough the disc was shot.

Your name sounds familiar! MRC or fduk??

It's not the disk, tried my dad's copy and it does the same. I even went so far as write zeros across the drive but it always comes up with errors....sometimes the file name is garbled as well.

Trying another HDD now, could be an issue with my mobo and my WD Raptor?

I'll give that a go tomorrow. The memory was fine in my old mobo for two years :(

So strange that it can do disc access as it formats fine, creates partitions ok, can read from the CD as it gets to the loading drivers bit fine. It's just when it's copying CD to HDD it goes **** up :(

It's largely not blue screening but getting stuck on random files.

what speed ram is it?

my pc2700 corsair sticks crash my 64bit machine, had to get corsiar 3200 to solve the problem (and only happened when entering windows or installing!)

worth a shot..

Found I may have to set the voltage to Ultra High (why doesn't it just list voltages  ) as the Ballistix is 2.8V so maybe that's it....who knows.
