Hi all
Just had my PC crash on me and is now going through bsod loop. I got a message which stated something about memory management (it wasn't up for very long) and then it looped again. It gets as far as the desktop and then bsod and reboots again.
Won't boot up in safe mode unless I go for the option with network prompt and I am also getting another error message pfn_list_corrupt. (This may be down to an attempt to run restore).
I am hoping that it's just the memory that has died and nothing more serious
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Are you over-clocking? If so, run at stock. If not over-clocking try resetting the BIOS. If neither of those work then test each ram stick individually by booting with only one stick in, then the other.

Disable the automatic restart with BSOD;

1. Click start
2. Right click Computer
3. Click advanced system settings on the left hand side
4. Under the advanced tab, click settings...
5. Under the system failure section, uncheck 'automatically restart'.

The next time you get a BSOD, it'll stay on screen so you can note down the error code. Normally the last 3 digits is enough

It's an Overclockers PC, one of the old battlefield 3 special edition 2.5k Intel5 [email protected] if memory serves me well. I am sure it only has the one stick in it. I will however take off the auto restart and get that error message.

I'd very much doubt it'll only have the one stick.
Perhaps you could take a note of all the BIOS settings and knock the OC down a little. Or, reset the BIOS to defaults and see if it boots

Don't know what I was thinking but it does indeed have 2 sticks.

I have removed one and the pc does indeed boot up okay now, so it does indicate that I have a faulty memory stick =(

The PC is still under warranty, however will Overclockers want me to sent the whole computer back or just the faulty memory?

Oh and thanks for the help!

I have run the windows memory test and the one stick I thought was dodgy came back with an error and the other one had no errors.

I have put the good stick back in the slot nearest the CPU, as it has been many years since I built any PC's and I seem to remember it making a difference.

As it appears to be the memory, is there anything else I need to check just to make sure?

I've only used the memory diag once, does it explain the error, or gives you an error code you could google? Sounds like it could be faulty though.
What motherboard are you running? I only ask as the RAM slot closest to the CPU may not be the best one.

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard is the mobo.

No it didn't give any error description, just said there was a hardware fault pretty much straight away.
Weird thing it, that I can boot up when I have one stick in but not two,

So, with both sticks in, it wont boot.

You've tried both sticks on their own, it'll boot up with one of them, but not the other? - Or it boots with one single stick, doesn't matter which stick it is?

It boots with either stick but only reports a fault with one stick when testing. I haven't tried rebooting with both sticks since the original crash.

Oh, I understand again! I confused myself.

Does sound like you have a fault with that particular stick than. You can send OCUK a webnote, post a thread in the customer services forum, or give them a ring in the morning. I can only assume they would want the RAM back rather than the whole system. They may want both sticks back though
