Hi

Just got all my kit setup and having few problems.

Installed everything into case, got everything setup and proceeded to install XP. XP installed fine! great I thought, so I restart PC.

Windows XP loading screen loads up, bar goes accross twice, then bam, blue screen, pc restarts. Follows this procedure of blue screening and restarting regardless.

So I tried safe mode, boots safe mode fine, so I tried safe mode with networking, doesnt work. Either does any more of those XP options.

So I tried resetting CMOS, same. Tried optimun defaults in bios, same. Tried ram in all different slots, same, tried a whole new set of ram, in different slots, same again.

Ok so I boot safe mode, goto msconfig, and set windows to start up with no drivers etc (Thought this could be the reason, as safe mode doesnt boot up with drivers) Same thing again - doesn't work.

Ok so I think il do another format, still doesn't work, so I do another, and again doesn't work. So i think maybe corrupt XP disk, so i borrow my mates, same problem persists!

So I think right, could be a borked HDD, try a spare HDD, same problem.

Okayyyy this is where you guys intervene!

Ive ran out of ideas now! All I could think of its a borked mobo? It's an Asrock DualSata2 btw.

Thanks inadvance thankyou please :)

Have you tried googling the error message ?

Try doing a minimal boot up at first no sound card 1 HDD etc.

It sounds like the board has a boot problem some times the HDD is better set to SATA 1 to start with, until windows has kicked in.

I only have HDD and GFX installed, also obviously mobo, cpu, ram and CDdrive, il try without the cd drive.

Error message is literally a blink, dont get a chance to see it.

Its an IDE drive.

Thanks for the help.

Just a little update.

This what ram ive tried

2*256mb OCZ BH-5
2*256mb unbranded 266
512mb Kingmax DDR400

All ram posts fine.

I have actually managed to get into windows now. But it seems the only way is to continously swap about those 5 sticks of ram, in different slots, and i usually get a 1/10 chance of it working. But if i restart it wont work!

Now im up just gotta keep pc on!

Nah gonna do some more investigating, this backs me up thinking its defiantly the mobo, or something wrong with mobo memory slots/ memory controller?

Could be a dodgy memory controller but I would also be inclined to suggest its your ram. Have you tried running memtest?
