A friend of mine ordered some components and wanted me to build it.
The rough spec is:

intel core 2 duo 8200
asus p5k se
xpert vision 8800gt 512mb
samsung 500gb hd
corsair pc6400 2gb
ocz 600w psu

So i installed windows vista (after bios update as cpu was unrecognised) and all was fine and dandy. So vista is installed and it uses the default windows VGA driver, this was working fine, but obviously i would need to install the nvidia drivers to use the GPU's power. So i installed the vista 32bit drivers from the cd provided. Looked good so far so did a restart.

The vista bar loads then at the login screen i get a blue screen, with lots of text but it is to fast to read much, a few words. I did see the error file was NV******.sys i think. Which looks like 'NV' = nvidia?

Anyway so it wont boot. So i go into safe mode which works because of microsoft vga driver, and i uninstall nvidia driver. Then it works fine again!

Get this....
I installed about 8 different vista drivers... the same problem!!
I even reinstalled vista... the same problem!!!

The worst bit....
I installed XP, the same problem!!!

The only thing i could think is the card is faulty as it is a cheap brand - expertvision. I told my friend to send it back and get a better brand 8800gt.
Is that the right thing to do?

Any help or ideas will be really appriciated.
Morg.

I did think that also. I looked in the BIOS and couldnt really see anything, i did try setting the PCI express thingy to 100 and also turned of spead spectrum for it, no difference.
Any one else have any ideas?
Thanks.

I would try going online first with the basic vga drivers installed and try installing the compatability/reliability updates from microsoft and i think there is one linked on the nvidia site also. Or try installing SP1 first then installing the drivers.

Cheers for replies. BTW i have tryed SP1.
I am going to try my ATI x1800 xl in the system on the weekend, see if it boots fine with that card. If it does i'll make him buy a 3870 xt.
