A while back I replaced my old A64 3200+ with a X2 4200+ and ever since I've been getting bluescreens. Not often, but since installing the new CPU I've had more than the entire time the 3200+ was in place.

On the various Bluescreens the only files of note are these three, and it's a random order as to which comes up after each crash.

Srescan.sys
Portcls.sys
Win32k.sys

I've installed the Microsoft XP dual-core fix and the AMD dual-core drivers.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Oh yeah, also since installing this new CPU I can't use the XP defragger as it just freezes, the screen goes grey and it stops responding.

All components check out fine. As for the newer BIOS I can't access the ASUS site for some reason, and when I do manage to snag the updated BIOS it times out. I'll give it a few more tries though.

yeah new processor usually means a reformat!

Can't do a reformat though. I have shedloads of stuff on the drive that I don't want to lose and that are too big to back-up to DVD.

Guess it's about time I popped into OcUK towers again to get a nice new 2nd HDD then. At the moment I have my drive partitioned into four partitions.

C:\ Local Disk (Os is on here)
D:\ Games
E:\ General Storage/Downloads
F:\ Music & Video.

Guess I'll try a repair install first. Cheers manveruppd, I never bloody thought of that. I must be getting old as I did that exact thing to a mates PC not a month back.

Ok, installed the Optimiser, lets see how it runs now. You reckon the time stamp problem might have been causing the thing to BSOD?
