I've recently tried gingerly to overclock my graphics card. Nothing major, about 10% on clocks and memory speeds.
However, I never got around to using it in games as I've mostly been playing TF2 which ran perfectly on stock speeds, and that's what I've been using since going to the overclocked speeds actually drops the 2d clocks to a level far too low to work with Aero properly.
Anyway, while playing TF2 like this, I had a couple of crashes, usually after about an hour of playing, though playing more demanding games was fine (2 horus of the HL2 cinematic mod, for example).
I got a little annoyed, and decided to update from the 10.3 drivers I had been running to the 10.4s, and since that I can barely manage 5 minutes in TF2 without bluescreening.
The first error started IRQL, but I didn't get the rest since it set to auto-restart, but I disabled that and tried TF2 again. This time I got a:
bad_pool_header
My extremely limited debugging skills led me to drag the minidumps into windbg, and both of them say:
Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe ( nt+70600 )
Also, I have this if its of any help:
I'm stumped by this, the fact that I could run the cinematic mod fine, which is a far more stressful game than TF2, surely shows that the graphics card is fine?
I'm going to try out Fallout3 and the Witcher now, see if either of them play on these 10.4 drivers. If not, I'll try removing then reinstalling it.
The only thing I can think of that I've done recently is that graphics card OC, but the temps on it are always lowish when it happens (~70C), so I don't see how that could have caused it...
Edit: Just ran through the heaven benchmark perfectly. But after a couple of minutes in Fallout 3 I'm dumped back to the desktop and am told the ATI display driver just recovered. But fallout 3 shouldn't anywhere near as stressful on the graphics card as Heaven.
Edit2: Uninstalled then reinstalled the 10.4 drivers, and gave The Witcher a blast, ran fine. Going to try TF2 now!
Edit3: http://i45.tinypic.com/2ujma7n.jpg
Corrupted textures, but that's all so far.
Huge edit: Got booted off the server due to high ping because I was uploading that image. Try to rejoin and I'm getting an error that my map differs from the server's. And this is happening on servers I've played on lots before! Could this be a hard drive issue instead?!?
