Hey guys,

I had a journey to where I'll be moving to (Oxford) and it was a quite a trek to say the least! I borrowed my Uncle's TomTom and it was fantastic. I don't however want to buy one because I can't really justify one for the odd journey.

I've decided to check out TomTom or similar for my phone. I've looked into the software aspect, now all I need is a GPS receiver.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

I've seen some positive reviews for this little badboy: http://www.gtop-tech.com/index.asp?pid=310&linkID=spec

Any thoughts?

Cheers :)

when i bought my gps receiver (well over a year ago) i read that the chipsets are the main thing to look for. and sirf iii were the best at the time

that might help :)

You can get ones small enough that they attach as a keyring to your car keys....and will work while your keys are in the ignition, no need to put them on the dash or anything.

I would go for one of them.

Globalsat make good recievers, I've had a couple.

The current one I have is rebadged "Navicore".

You can get them for around 20-30 on the bay, that's a bargain IMHO. Great sensitivity and battery life.

Yeah i use a keyring one, just bigger than a car key fob. Works perfect, and 9 times out of 10 I'm only using the thing in my car anyway so makes perfect sense...

I've got one of these:

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/navicores-bluetooth-gps-is-the-smallest-ever-208512.php

Cost about £30 a year ago. Works a treat, really stong signal (indoors sometimes :O ) and connects easily via bluetooth. battery lasts several hours, charges via mini-USB (comes with car adapter)

it's a re-badged Holux GPSlim 240. Holux were (still are?) considered one of the best makes. The Navicore even labels it as a Holux on the back

I use a 32channel? Holex based Chinese receiver. No problems really. Way better than my early tomtom branded 8 channel? one.Gets a fix quickly and stays hold of it, excellent battery life. This was just an egay special to be honest. It isn't branded Holex but the unit in every way is the spit of one. Think it may have come straight from the factory!!!
