The head unit in the GFs car has packed in, this is the second one thats failed but now its out of warranty mercedes aren't interested in replacing it again. Rather than fork out over-the-odds for another OE head unit that will probably fail like the first two did anyway I'd like to replace it with a bluetooth compatible one for her.

Not too bothered about awesome power or sound quality but would like MP3 support and the ability to dial from the head unit (some i've seen only let you answer calls). A connection for the steering wheel controls would also be cool.

Can anyone one recommend one, or make any suggestions at all please?

i have no idea tbh, and the car isnt here at the mo.

I've never changed a stereo before but i though that most things were standard and you could just buy the appropiate wiring adaptor if needed?

Aye, you'll probably need an ISO adapter, an adapter to connect to the steering wheel stalk controls and a fascia adapter :(
Double or single DIN preference ?(single being the most common 'standard' size unit)
