Once again im having problems with bluetooth. My mums laptop has integrated bluetooth (HP/Compaq Pavillion nc6129). However the icon in system tray has red lines which i remember from my previous problem means something is wrong. Whenever i try and do anything (search for devices etc) it says make sure your device is connected etc. Tried installing newer software from their website and half way through installation, once again it moaned that the bluetooth device wasnt attatched. Any ideas (using XP)?

right i have found the problem, its somethin to do with Windcomm drivers & SP2. Theres a solution but part of it is to unplug the device whilst installing something - cant do that though as its intergrated....

check device manager. right click the bt device, update driver, choose the 2nd option (advanced), next, 2nd option again (don't search), next, finish.

i sometimes have this problem too with my belkin usb adapter. doing the above steps always fixes it. it's a minor inconvenience....

i always use the drivers built into xp. far better than the ones i got on cd. also make sure laptop has service pack 2 as this has greater bluetooth support (apparently :p)...

I don't think there were *any* built in drivers before SP2. I too prefer the Microsoft Stack to the Widcomm stack. Ok, it doesn't support bluetooth audio yet... but it appears to work more reliably than Widcomm's.

right managed to do that, i unticked "show compatable devices" and chose the appropiate device (hp bluetooth wireless module) but it either says cannot start device or installs fine but the bluetooth still wont work. The system tray icon is still red and there is a exclamation in device manager.
