Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

better still that's a 256mb connection with 30 meg DOWNLOAD :p.

haha mistake i think.

I think it must have spiked when I ran the test, but this could also have given us an insight as to what Telewest is actually capable of.

'256Mb connection coming to an ISP near you soon sometime in 2007' LoL :p

Well you learn something every day, but i can assure you i didnt hit the back button. I cut and paste the direct link to the speed test, hit enter and voila thats it! :s

Couldnt agree with you more. Ive got 384k UP now, which is up from 256k, but I still think as a rule of thumb that upstream should be 10% of downstream. Then again I got a fair idea why they limited it, coz Telewest are probably in bed with web hosting companies that dont wanna go out of business :(

Well not only that, but the cable network isn't built for high speed uploads, and the upload bandwidth would cost an absolute fortune.

They could have course increase the upload speeds, let each node saturate, and watch your download speeds go to pot. :)

That's interesting, as the newsgroups are filled with reports of speed problems in Croydon.

Hells Bells, you're like Victor Meldrew on Tamazipan you are :D

Maybe his is OK? Or hes just pleased with what small increase he's managed to get. :)

Good on you >:|sh4d0w|:< wish mine had been done, not long now :)

Well, I don't know what's going on, but yesterday I passed some files to my girlfriend over MSN... things seem to be sorting themselves out. A 34MB music video took about ten seconds. Then we tried a 700MB film which took ten minutes. We were astounded.

Yeah when I got in last night and checked it was averaging 6MB but as the night went on it hit the full 10MB.

This is the Croydon area btw checked this morning and its still whizzing along no problem.

Good job Telewest :)

Im on UBR05 in gillingham and i havnt been upgraded yet, going to work shortly though so hopefully it will all be done when i get back :)

West London done! Didn't realise even though I was talking to a mate about it and didn't catch on and I got a letter but didn't realise until I saew my download at 400Kbs!

In Surbiton (not far from New Malden), my line has been upgraded but its only doing 5.5Mbps instead of 10Mbps. Orignal line was 2Mbps.

Using a SB4100

Result

This seems to be the case everywhere, TW aren't saying you will always get 10mb just that that is the maximum you will get, contention will reduce your throughput, try the same test at 3am on a week night and you'll probably get close to 10mb
