Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

I had a slow connection the other day, was solved with a modem reboot.

And today things went down for 3hrs...maintenance. No speed upgrade though, bah!

Yes Ive tried it, was confusing the issue when my WRT54GS needed a hard reset. I read the trick is to use reset button, unplug the power, wait 5-10 sec, plug power back and release the reset button. Unplugging the power and reseting alone didnt help the problem of not being able to access all the router's websetup pages and similar limited access to the internet.

Ill give the program another go now Im on 10Mb.

nope, at worst maybe reboot your modem, but when there ready to upgrade you, it should be done automatically.

Even though i've had my upgrade for awhile now i still get downtime, i usally see a loss in speed back down to 512k from 2mb in the evenings for a few hours and at some point during the weekend, i think this is due to the amount of trafic using the service.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, though i am using a router so it might be that but i never had this problem when i had the 512k speed.

hi.
my router will not let me get 10gig.
so i just downgraded to 4meg.
its pretty fast for only £25.
it stays at 4meg nearly all the time
cheers ian.

Has anyone called tech about these speeds?and if so what has been said?

Yeah I have called them 3 times now about the poor speeds.

From talking to one guy it seems like contention issues as I can dload at full speed after midnight and if I check in the morning its still full speed.

When I check in the evening I am lucky to get over 1 meg.

I was told last night that if you can dload from there game servers at full whack then its a problem outside their network and they wont do anything about it. I was also told that my pc may not be up to spec.

LOL Opteron 148 @ 2.9ghz and a x850xt,gig of ram etc yeah right mate of course it barely meets the minimum requirements.

I was then told to use a different browser, also told not to use a router etc etc.

The bloke didnt know what he was talking about.

@Matt if you are using NZB's and all the files are not on the server Grabit will pull loads of text down and you will see insane speeds ;)

Hopefully the problems will be resolved soon as its becoming annoying now as it has been like this for two weeks now when originally it was really good.

Does it jump all over the shop like the supposed 10Mb does. I may follow suit and got o 4Mb but only if it sticks at 440k/sec from the groups as thats all i download from

Ok hope this is of help to the folks in Liverpool

I was on the 2mb service and thought why should I get 2mb download when I can get 4mb for the same price. I upgraded through the self care page and waited my 48 hours. Nothing happened. So after a phone call, the guy said I was due for a 10mb line not 4mb. He couldnt do anything to the modem to upgrade it and told me to call customer services. Calling them resulted in me getting my 4mb service and I was told that it would probably be the end of November that the service would come to my area. I am on ubr10.

So don't worry guys, I feel the same as you and want it now. But think of it this way, it will be even sweeter when it comes!

Its pretty stable for me. Can get a good sustained rate of about 430k from the BY newgroups. Goes up and down at peak times and during the early hours of the morning i was getting a good 480k down. But, i guess the fluctuations in your speed all depends on the contention in your UBR..

Appart from not finding anything worth downloading on BY ng, I couldnt post a message; have done so in the past. In fact I wanted to talk to support but u cant if u need support to join the support newsgroup!

I'm in knowsley on ubr 6, which was upgraded yesterday. I managed to get my upgrade to 4meg from 2meg for £35 earlier this month, after moaning to customer services.

Should only be a couple of weeks now left to wait until I get my 10meg. At least our areas now on the evenfaster list, spare a thought for the poor people in areas who haven't even got a mention yet. Customers in some areas may have to wait until next year and if i was one of them I would be well p***ed!

You dont think there is anything worth downloading? there is an utterly immense amount, i wont go any further into that. Anyway as for posting to the hi-speed group its simple you dont need to do anything but just post. WHat news client do you use. They actually reply very quickly aswell.

I'm in Newcastle and can't wait for them to turn on the upgrade.
10Mb will just be fantastic.

Just tried downloading a game demo from telewest's site at work:

I wish I had those kind of speeds at home!! :D
