To be more specific I'm in Astley at the bottom of Tyldesley. Who have you seen that 2Mb Max with?

Rick

Jesus, to be more specific I'm in Astley too! Where abouts?

All my line tests say that it will support 2Mb to 8Mb, doesn't matter who I go with. :)

Im having major connection issues with my pop3, for 2 days now I can only connect about every 6 hours.
Same here but that is just a snapshot in time, overall service has been excellent. I had more downtime when on 512k than now. Since before christmas when I got 10Mb there has been no downtime on internet.

Well after being ask to provide much information such as ping, tracert and a userstat thingy plus giving them average speeds on like 10 downloads I got this helpful email back

Thank you for your e-mail dated 15 May 2006.

I refer to your comments regarding your broadband connection.

I am sorry to hear about the problems experienced with your broadband
connection. I can confirm that there is currently an ongoing slow speeds
issue in your area. This has been logged under ticket reference 323410.
We have confirmed that some network upgrades will shortly be scheduled
in your area to alleviate the problems you are experiencing. These
should be completed over the coming weeks.

Please contact us if you have any further queries.

I would conteact them via the newsgroups, they sound like they know what their talking about on there.

So no news is good news? U all happy with your upgraded speeds?

Yes I know last post was from May, but with all the complaints that they were still waiting for an upgrade, surprising no one actually bothers to reply once its done. Human nature I guess.

Yep, very happy. I was one of the last ones to be upgraded but it all happpened flawlessly. As usual, I've no complaints at all with the quality and speed of the service.

I was upgraded in march time, the downtime at that period of time was pretty shabby, but thats to be expexted I guess. The year before though, moving from 2>4mb was very smooth and no down time and was upgraded at beggining of december!
Here is me hoping we get upgraded this year again!

I hope the next one is 4mb > 10MB :D

I spoke to Telewest last week to downgrade my 10MB to 2MB (I just don't need 10MB). The lady on the phone said that BY were testing 100MB and when that goes live they'll be upgrading the 10MB > 100MB so I imagine that it might mean that the rest of us get a free upgrade too.

Of course, she could be talking rubbish, I'm only passing on what she said.

I can confirm thaT tw will be doing the 100mb, they already do 100,155 & 165 mb for business and also a gig lan to lan connection.

NTL:Telewest press release from yesterday:

http://www.ntl.com/mediacentre/press/pdf/Q3-06 Press Release.pdf

In amongst all the figures it says:

"As an end-to-end network owner, we have competitive strengths in the quality of broadband service that
we offer. Customers can receive consistent speeds no matter where they live on our network and our top
speed of 10Mb is available throughout our broadband addressable areas. In November, we will be
launching a commercial trial of a 50Mb broadband service to paying customers."

Would be interesting if they go for 10,20 and 50Mb services in the future :)

Don't even get me started on telewest grrr. I've been with them over six years and lately their service is a joke.

I'm on a 10 meg line and it's practically unusable during peak hours.

I've contacted them on the groups and have been basically told that my ubr is highly populated.

Which just sounds to me like they have too many people in my area and can't cope with the demand.

There is a general thing posted for Liverpool upgrades for may 2007.

So that means I've got lots of months of unusable gaming to look forward to.

Has anyone else had similar problems and managed to get some compensation out of them at all.

What you try'd changing the contention line that your modem is connected to?

If you have a Surfboard go to the modem config page 192.168.100.1 and go to the config page, there will be a line Upstream Channel ID that is differnt for each area normaly 1 - 4.

Change it reboot the modem and do a Trace Route to BBC or somewhere.

Theres not much TW can do if a area is overloaded as most of the time its down to people with hack cable boxes and cloned modems.

I'll have a look tonight and see if I can fiddle with it.

I have had problems in the past and I think it was my upstream they changed and that sorted it no problem.

Very frustrating when I know someone on exactly same isp as me about 2 minutes walk from me and theirs is fine.

And my friend is on ntl and is on 20 meg at the moment

I'm getting the exact same problems in the west midlands area.

My connection drops to 256k at times.
