Blur - worth buying?

played the demo and it was great, mindless fun and a good laugh with a few friends in the party aswell.

Tried this today must say i liked it better than the split second demo ,everything just felt much faster.

It's been getting great reviews and it's been ages since I played a good arcadey racer. I'll be grabbing the demo from XBL, but probably getting it on the pc if it's up to it.

Multi-player with friends is brilliant, a great laugh. Was bitterly dissapointed when we couldn't play with guests over the LAN though (seriously, whats the point in it then?).

It's more Wipeout than Mario Kart, but it's a lot of fun. I get the feeling it's bombing though - only 14k people registered on the ps3 online leaderboards and it's been out over a week.

As a long time BC fan (PGR2 and 4 are some of my favorite games of all time) this is a mild disappointment. It does lots of clever things, it gets a lot right, and it's built from a solid foundation on a technical level but it's just completely soulless.

Contributing to this is some really simple tricks I think they've missed; Why can't I customize my numberplate? Why is the character in my car really detailed when I can't customize their look? I'm not massively into the UGC stuff, but they've clearly done most of the leg work, so why they haven't taken the extra step I don't know.

A lot of the game has a very strong design by committee feeling to it which ends up leaving it feeling a little dull and watered down. They have looked at other games, and copied what has sold which I really can't blame them for given the sales of their previous titles (despite them being excellent). So you get the perks/leveling system from MW, right down to prestige, sorry 'legendary' ranks. The single player gets a voice over from a woman who sounds like she might just have sex with you if you win, just like NFS. The whole interface has been designed to look 'cool' but I think if often comes off as trying to hard.

The multiplayer can be great fun, but it can also be incredibly frustrating, until you really nail down your weapon/mod strategy you'll suffer from 'Mario kart syndrome' of going from first to last on the final lap.

I also feel the game play is weighted too heavily towards weapon management and not enough towards driving ability. What I mean is, if you pick up the right weapons and fire/place them in the correct locations, you may as well not bother much with a racing line; just skirt the barriers.

Still, when it's all working together correctly, it's a fun game with some cool ideas. As I read back through this it seems more damning than I expected, but I've put a good numbers of hours into it despite having other things to play so it can't be that bad ;)

I have just got this game today , and I agree . However it is still adrenaline fueled fun :D . Definatly worth a purchase for those still wondering.

Been playing a bit of both Blur and Split Second. Whilst Split Second is great to pick up and play for a while Blur has kept me and my friends coming back.
What i love is that you can't just stick to your favorite car, it will make some races a lot harder. Instead you need to select the right car for a certain track.

Wow 15 posts in 5 years! . Either way I agree , I played split second once and was already bored after one race. I do look forward to seeing what DLC bizzare bring out for this.
