My HTPC is connected via ethernet and has all my bluray movies 30gb+ per file.

My Nvidia TV is is my loft with a great signal and connected via 5ghz wifi...

Would it be possible to play these movies without buffering all the time?

It will be tight. On XBMC you can force it to run a large buffer which Gives a delayed start but can counter issues with variable bit rate encodes where some scenes can be low bandwidth (and so your connection catches up and fills the buffer) with fast scenes burning down the buffer.

Only way to know is to try

I will say your in for a world of hurt.

If you have a very good wireless AC router and a very good signal maybe.
If you have a wireless N router do not even bother trying.

Very good quality power line adapters or an Ethernet cable is my advice.

Just tried streaming a 35gb iso to my note 4 (Looper, great film), worked fine over wireless N, 2.4ghz at that. Well, no audio but the phone doesnt support DTS audio.

Peaks of 7MB/s, or 56Mb/s ish. You should be able to maintain that over wireless N with a decent signal easily. Of course, using something like plex and transcoding will make it easier, if your htpc is up to the job of transcoding.

Why not use homeplugs? Much better than wifi. I'm using 5 Solwise 1200s throughout my house to stream Plex from my server flawlessly.

If you use direct play, no. If you transcode, yes, though you can set the target bitrate so your mileage may very when it comes to what you think is an acceptable bitrate.

Just bite the bullet and run ethernet cable.
I did and best thing I ever did.

From BT Infinity router - Drill through outside wall, up outside wall, in through porch canopy upto spare bedroom, in through exterior wall along skirting board into built in wardrobe up back of shelves into airing cupboard then up into loft (thats where it would end for you) across loft down behind door of other spare bedroom to hide cable along skirting board to giga switch.

Only place its visible is about 3 metres outside wall and semi hidden behind door of spare bedroom.

C'mon you know you want to......

It should work fine as long as you've a decent WiFi signal and it works good generally. Only way is to test it though. Another vote for just run a cable to be honest.

Another vote for an ethernet cable. Once it's run, it's easy, fast, and secure. No messing, configuring, or interference. Just plug it in and it works.
