Blurb books

Now that does look nice! I was half way through doing one of these of my daughters 1st year as a chrimstmas present for the wife but I missed the last order deadline... I do aim to finish sometime!
 
How are you printing them out for it ? And on what printer ? My printer is an expensive HP all-in-one and I use premium inks and photo paper, yet i get lines across the pictures :(

They print the books for you. you download the program, add the photos layout etc then upload the pdf to them and order so many copies that you need. I'm in the middle of making one now.
 
Yeah, but even up to 160 pages seems to only be about £35 for a standard landscape book. I guess I was just expecting it to be more.

While I've got you Raymond, I've been ask to do a wedding, now as someone who has covered a wedding for free, made some mistakes, learnt a lot, and now feel up for the job, how much should I charge?

I will cover the whole day, offer around 250-450 images on disk, plus one of these blurb books. I'm thinking around £500. What are your thoughts?

I'd be kitted with my 5D, 24-70L, 135L, flash, and I'd borrow a 2nd body as backup.
 
£500 seems very reasonable, i did a few for that, and the book will cost you in the end just under £50.

£500 perhaps will be low in terms of market average, especially for a whole day, but the more expensive togs provide Graphi or Jorgensen books that costs lots and lots more at cost price.

Well I'm thinking that because it would be my first paid wedding, that it is a good amount to charge. I am going into it with only part a days wedding coverage as experience, so don't feel I can charge the earth.

One more quickie, how long after the wedding do you take to deliver final images? I'm thinking 10 days would be enough to process all images if I work a couple hours a night on it.

£500 is a good start off point, obviously explain to the couple that you are charging this amount (low amount) because you are new, and i am sure they know how much an average tog charge if they have done their research.

10 days is very short, you can give yourself 28 days in the contract, however that will just tide you down a deadline and if you fail, they can claim for all the monies back. Personally I wouldn't put in a date in the contract, if they ask, then say you try provide them with the proofs within 28 days, but also tell them that your own timetable is usually shorter etc. Then after they get the proofs (low res, good for screen but not print) then let them pick the photos for the book. Personally I would also pick my favourite 150 or so, and ask them if those are okay and feel free to amend my selection. It's so that it speeds things up.

Thats pretty good then. I'm in the middle of doing a book for a player who's testimonial year it is so I'm trying to get most of this season in before finalising the book and sending it off, perhaps to present him with it at the last game of the season or something. so allowing say 2 or 3 weeks i should be ok :)
