I've been listening to Radio 1 a fair bit recently and there was a song that stuck in my head a lot. Armed with "good girl - I know you want it" I found the name of the song to be Blurred Lines, by a completely unknown to me 'Robin Thicke'. I downloaded the catchy tune (apparently the rap free version) and had been enjoying it ever since. I then decided to listen to the song on youtube, for some reason and saw there was an uncensored video. So obviously I clicked on it. My eyes pretty much popped out on stalks - I couldn't believe how racy it was. As I watched, I couldn't help but feel slightly let down by the whole thing... it was a bit much and seemed to overly sexualise an otherwise fun and flirty song. So the next thing I did was google the reactions to it. Holy moly.
So it turns out I've been living under a giant rock. I didn't know that the Miley Cyrus hoohah all stemmed from this song being performed live either. I never even considered any rapey overtones to it. I think that's a bit of a stretch. My thoughts - I do feel a bit let down by it all and I'm kind of embarrassed to have liked it in isolation. I kind of get the disgruntlement to it, but I don't think it's fathoms beyond anything else that has come before. It just goes to show how people can interpret a song differently!
What are your thoughts on the whole thing? Very late to the party I know, but I couldn't see a thread on it
